View Full Version : Rectal pain and bleeding-at my wit's end!

Right now my rear end hurts so bad, and I'm at a loss for answers. I've tried everything-I do sitz baths, eat plenty of fiber, use suppositories prescribed by my doctor-nothing helps! It hurts so bad I end up in tears from the pain and frustration, and I have a fairly high level of pain tolerance.

I've posted before-I've had surgeries this year for a perirectal abscess and a fistula. I also recently had gallbladder surgery. I've had a pelvic/rectal mri, gastroscopy and colonoscopy. The colonoscopy showed 2 areas of inflammation and they took 2 biopsies, but the biopsies didn't reveal anything. I don't really know what else to do.

I have rectal bleeding everyday. I asked my doctor if I have internal hemorrhoids (sp?), and he did say yes. Would hemorrhoids cause this much pain? The bleeding occurs with or without a bowel movement, now pretty much every time I'm on the toilet. I don't have hard stools-usually they are pretty flat and soft (ribbon-like). I used to suffer from constipation, but now I have a bowel movement nearly every day.

Anyone have any advice or gone through something similar? If the cause is hemorrhoids, why wouldn't the doctor have removed them?

I see a gastro specialist in September, but I just don't know how much more I can take of this.

Thanks.

You should go back to your doctor before September. Maybe go to the ER if you can't see your doctor because the ER doctor may give you a referral to a specialist or notify your specialist that you need to be seen right away. I know someone who had bleeding like that for too long and it became an emergency. They had to have part of their colon removed. I don't mean to scare you because who knows what going on. But if it was me I'd go in and tell the ER doctor what's going on. Plus you need to get some pain medication you can't continue in so much pain without relief.

Thanks for your advice. I called and was able to get an appt for this Friday to see a gastroenterologist. Hopefully he'll be able to figure out what's going on.
