View Full Version : How to reduce gut?

This seems to be the problem on my battle to lose my belly. It seems not to be the fat because I've tried for over a year on diets and loads of exercising every day yet it's still here. It seems like the gut is the problem as the food goes in there.

Any ideas? :)

Eat less, lift weights and do cardio.
Theres the 'secret' to a gutless physique.
Youre not unique. The right amount of cardio mixed with a low cal(high protein low carb & fat) diet, and your endomorphic physique will shed the fat.

Does it take a long time for the gut to reduce? It's taken me a year and still needs working on.

well, that obviously depends on the size of the gut, but after a year i would hope to see some damn good results.

Also make sure that what you are trying to lose is actually fat and not just an extended stomach. To lose the latter is a bit tricker, though excercise also helps.

I think it might be an extended stomach then as fat should have burned off by now.... I've never heard of an extended stomach, can you tell me more? How do I reduce it??

First, check to see if you have any flab around your abdominal area. Pretty easy to do; just pinch your skin, if you can grab a bunch then you can probably loose a bit more body fat. Also fat can reside behind the stomach, though I believe usually there is an even distribution on both sides (not sure about this though).

An extended stomach has lots of known causes. The main one in well-fed individuals is eating large infrequent meals that cause the stomach to expand. If you do this regularly the stomach looks larger for two reasons 1) because there is more food in it over larger time periods since larger portion sizes take longer to digest 2) the stomach actually becomes more efficient and expands to improve digestive capacity.

Also certain foods (for instance Milk) can cause stomach extension because of the intestinal gas that is generated during digestion.

Other causes are related to malnutrition and are possible in individuals whose diets are not varied enough. (Check your diet for veggies, fruits, etc)

If you have reduced your body fat to a level that is acceptable to you and there is no underlying medical condition such as malnutrition but you still have an extension, you can try eating smaller more frequent meals, but not too frequent because you don't want food to pile up in the stomach either. You can try cutting out milk and cheese from your diet, but I wouldn't cut out any veggies or fruits that might be causing gas because they are probably good for you.

If that doesn't work, I wouldn't worry about it since the extension istelf is completly harmless. In fact, I have seen it in guys with six-packs, though it is less noticeable since they usually have an overall more athletic appearance (broad shoulders, large chest, etc) which makes the extension look smaller. Which means that, weight training and running or other cardio excercise might also help you develop a more athletic body which will take away attention from your extension.

Good luck, but also keep in mind that your main motive for excercising should be to improve fitness not appearance.
