I quit taking the pill about 8 days ago. I am considering taking vitex, as some have suggested for regulating cycles after quiting the pill. I was reading online and some websites say that Vitex is used to decrease/supress libido in men...but now i am a little skeptical. does anyone know for sure whether the vitex has that same effect in women...b/c that's definately not what i want. Any replies will help. Thanks.:)

how weird i was going to ask this exact same question! Vitex has a few names, one of them being Monk's Berry because Monks would take it to decrease libido. From what i have read it's supposed to be very effective in regulating irregular cycles and is even approved by the German Commission E (the German governmental agency that evaluates the safety and effectiveness of herbal products). But I have not read anything that says it will decrease a woman's libido.

I know I've seen some posters mention it... Has anyone that's taking it experienced a decrease in libido??? Just like pinkkangaroo said, that's definitely not what I want either. :nono:

I think it decreases libido only in men...I've taken it about 2 months and have noticed no decrease in libido...actually, I've had some sporadic increases in libido (particularly around the time I ovulate), though I attribute this to stopping hormonal birth control pills and not the Vitex.

Let's all remember that the way a woman responds to an herbal supplement can be VERY different from how a man responds, due to the fact that we have way different hormonal balances on our bodies than they do. So don't freak out about what you read about how a man responds to a medication. Who cares how a man responds to it? All that matters is how a woman responds to it. And if you do any reading about Vitex, it has been hailed as one of the best cure-alls for pretty much any female problem out there.
