View Full Version : Can't go around others

Hi, I'm not really sure if this is a bowel disorder per se, but I didn't know where else to post this. For the longest time everytime I went on a trip I just couldn't empty my bowels. I thought that this was common and just constipation. However, I later noticed it's not just on trips but even when I am at home and someone like a guest is there, I can't go. The feeling is rather weird, but it's like my sphincter muscle just tightens up and won't let the stool pass. When I strain it will momentarily open up, but then quickly fights back and shuts off. It's a struggle to say the least. As soon as I get home from a trip or the guest has left my place, I can then go no problem. Now obviously this is probably something psychological and I was wondering if anyone else has gone thru this and what they do about it? It can be a real hassle if someone is staying with you for many days. Also, the other weird thing is, I have no problem urinating whatsoever and whenever, and I can also go #2 around close family member who know me well. What's wrong with me? How can I fix this?

I know exactly what you mean, I have a hard time going on vacation, and even when I was at school I never had a BM, somehow my brain would tell me when it was alright to go, when I'm at home. Alot of people suffer from this kind of problem, It's normal for it to happen the way it does, and yes it is kind of a psychological thing in the brain. Another word for it would be bathroom shyness. I myself suffer from bladder shyness, like in a mens bathroom I will not go in the urinal, I will go into a stall instead. I guess just try and relax a little bit more, and reassure yourself it's ok to go whenever you have to. And maybe if your start to think less about it, you might end up going weather whose over your house excluding family. If it doesn't work, there still is nothing wrong with you, people are just different when it comes to the bathroom, some people just get embarresed sometimes. But your perfectly normal.
