Hi- I am new here and i am 24/f. I was diagnosed a month ago with SVT that i know i have had for years. I was always told about how i had panic disorder and how my hormones caused it. Anyway, they caught my SVT during an exercise stress test and because of my age and how much of my life it has affected they believe an ep study with ablation is the best option.

Can any of you relate? COuld you tell me your stories about having this procedure done??? I would really appreciate it!!!

I am so glad things went so well for you. I was always thinking that one day when i decide to have a baby that my heart would cause an issue. That was before they diagnosed me, but now that i know i definately want this done for many reasons.

It is nice to hear that the ablation was super easy for you. Were you asleep. They are only slightly sedating me I guess. COuld you tell me a bit about your expierience?

If not, good luck with everything and congrats on the successful ablation!

Ash, if you dont mind me asking, what were your original symptoms?

My original symptoms:It started when i was 15 or so and i was running with a friend, all of a sudden my heart did this weird flutter and started POUNDING! It took about 5 minutes to make it suddenly flop and beat normal, but fast, again. Ever since then i have had palpitations, flutters, skipped beats and the pounding happen. The pounding is what is altering what i do because it happens when i am doing anything physical, when i get very upset and sometimes when i bend down or jump and land on my feet too hard (such as in volleyball). It's like it gets thrown out of wack. Recently I also have little boughts of what feels like angina, but may not be.

Hope this helps. (Sorry I dont know many of the medical descriptions of it, i just know what i feel.)

Hi Ash -

I hope I got to you in time...before you went in, that is. Do not worry about a thing. In January, it will be two years since my ablation for SVT and it has been a God send. I suffered with this since the teen years and have recorded heart rates as high as 278. I used to go to the ER 4 or 5times per week as I eventually became unable to break it myself. People probably thought I was a junkie from all of the track marks from the ade****ne. My doctor had been asking me to do the ablation since it was in it's study phases, but I was too afraid as my problem was with the left ventricle and the procedure became much riskier because of that...I did not want a pacemaker or worse...a stroke. But, finally, I just got sooo tired and I have two kids to think about now, so I went for it. Although tricky, my surgeon was phenomenal and mission accomplished. I could not be happier. The SVT was controlling my life and I took back the control. I still have the flutters like my heart wants to go crazy again...but it can't. I am cured and I am sooo happy...you will be, too!!

Best of luck!!

Sharon

I had a cardiac ablation 6 years ago...would do it again in a heartbeat (pardon the pun). After suffering so long and truly thinking that it was "all in my head" it was a relief to finally be done with it all. The procedure is basically painless, even the recovery isn't too bad, the worst of it being laying still, on your back, for 6-8 hours with sandbags on your groin. It can be kind of scary during the procedure when you can feel your heartbeat racing, but remember that the doctors are doing that on purpose, and while you are pretty drowsy you can still ask for comfort from the nurse who will be standing by your side through the entire procedure. It's scary...but well worth it. The success rate is around 98% as I understand.

Good luck!
Chris

Hi- I actually had it done 8 days ago. The doc thinks it was a 100% cure for atrial tachy. I already can feel the new level off energy i have.

I was wide awake and got scared quite a few times, the burnings hurt a bit too, but i would do it again if need be. My doctor and the nurses were fantastic. I was so greatful to have such a great team in with me. I am so glad i went through with the procedure instead of trying medication.

Congrats on your successful ablations as well!!!

Ash your story sounds very much like mine. I was running with a friend at age 14 and suddenly my heart went nuts. For 10 years everyone told me I was having panic attacks even though I KNEW I was not. Finally last summer they caught it on EKG and I was diagnosed with SVT.

I'm also concerned about pregnancy, but haven't had ablation yet. Come back and tell your story after you have yours.

Oh, nevermind. I see you had the ablation already. I'm glad it went well. :)
