Hello. My father, aged 74, has recently been diagnosed with anemia. They saw a reference recently that men over 71 should not be on the drug adalat or nifidipine as it can affect red cell count. They are wondering if there is a connection between this drug, which has been on for many years now, and his anemia. Is anyone aware such a warning?

cstage,
what type of anaemia does ur father have? Anaemia is not really as side effect of nifedipine. If ur father has iron deficiency anaemia its imperative that he be screen of colonic cancer!
take care & hope everything turn out well for u!

Hi,
I'm happy to note my father is doing fine. His doctor found studies which showed that adalat can aggrevate anemic like symptoms in about 5% of people taking the drug. They have since done a colon examination and it came out negative.
Thanks for your replies.
