View Full Version : Accuracy of Test Results

Hi

Just wondering how long you have to wait to be tested for hsv 2? It's been 8 weeks since possible exposure.

The man I slept with said that he was tested 6 months ago and got a negative result and 2 weeks ago got retested with his reply " I got tested last week, the doctor said I am clean".

He slept with a woman who didn't know she had it until a flare up came about. They used a condom and I'm confused how he didn't contract anything. I don't like waiting so long to get a test either, its depressing me even though I probably have nothing.

Also how accurate is a blood test?

Blood test manufactures recommend waiting at least 12-16 weeks post possible exposure. However, some people take longer than 16 weeks. So, the longer you can wait the higher the accuracy of a negative result. A positive result is about 96-98% accurate. No blood test is 100%

The problem with someone saying their 'clean' is that they usually don't even know what they were tested for. A standard STD exam doesn't test for Herpes, you need to request. They may draw blood, but it doesn't mean a herpes test was performed. And people don't realize they weren't tested until they ask for copies of the results.

Assuming he did really get a Herpes test, he should be able to provide copies of the results.

Just sleeping with a person who has genital herpes doesn't mean it's an automatic infection. The transmission rate from a woman to a man when avoiding sex during an outbreak or when feeling one come on and using a condom is about 2% each year (not each time). Meaning if there are 100 couples, 2 men will be infected after a one year period. Turn the numbers around and there's a 98% chance the male will not get infected. Of course, your mileage will vary.

Yes he did ask to be tested for herpes.

I don't know how to ask for a copy of his test results as he would probably need to see his doctor again and I don't want to inconvenience him anymore as I have been onto him about the herpes testing for about a month now. And he is sick of me asking him and him telling me that he has nothing.

He was tested 6 months ago and then only last month, clear as he tells me.

I am very puzzled how he didn't catch herpes from the girl who didn't know she had herpes?????

She had a flare up and contacted him and he got himself tested - condom was used.

I should be fine????? I'm probably giving myself all this worry over nothing because I don't have a hardcopy of his results.

Please reply soon....

Thank you
