View Full Version : Why does my b12 keep dropping

I am not vegetarian, but dont eat much red meat, I eat loads of chicken, eggs, dairy etc and yet my b12 keeps getting low. I was checked for instrinsic factor and that was ok. I dont know why it gets low. Is there any other reason why I dont absorb it. I usually drink tea with my dinner or occasionally wine/spirits. Any ideas? I just have to keep taking a multi vit to keep it up.

Your multi doesn't have enough B12 in it to help if you don't absorb it well--a high oral dose is needed for those who mal-absorb. Get some methylcobalamin and take at least 1000 mcg/day. Taking a B-complex at another time from the B12 is advisable too (since the Bs need to be kept in balance, and they work together).

Some medications, especially acid-reducers interfere with B12 absorption. Intestinal problems/diseases (like celiac) can inhibit B12 also.

Thanks for your response. A few years ago when I first got low my doctor suggested a shot so I had that, a week or so later I got awful acne around my chin and neck that lasted about a month. Next time I was low I tried a b12 supplement and the same thing happened. Now I know that once my body gets more than it will accept it seems to reject it through my skin. When I mention this to my doctors they say they have never heard of it. Im now afraid to do big dosages which is why my multi doesnt seem to cause the problem. If I start to see pimples I know I have reached my level. Any ideas about this. Thanks
