Hope there is someone who can give me some advice. I am a 54 yr old fem ale who feels heathy and looks well exceot for being over weight. 5 yrs ago my periods stopped. No problems at all. Then last year I started to have bleeding. Eventually had a D & C which came back fine. Had the problem again last May went back to he doctor and went for a scan. My doctor phoned me this week to say that my uterus lining was to thick for someone over 50 which was what I was told last year, did not ask if was any thicker than last year which was 7 mm. Now she want to refer me back to the hospital, and I'm scared it could be cancer. Any thoughts anyone.

Thanks for reading this

I did have two D & Cs last year, two polyps were removed on the first one but they did'ent find cancer or pre cancerous cells on the second one. Had slight bleeding since but Dr don't seem to be be to concerned about it now. Feeling well and happy. Hope you are all doing fine.

That's good news! Your thickening uterine lining is usually not a cause to be too concerned. I've had two D&C's; thickened lining; with multiple polyps removed over the past 6 years and just had a hysterectomy because they grew back again....best thing I ever did! Life is wonderful every day of the month!

I was holding out for menopause, but at almost being age 52, and no hormone changes in sight, I gave in and only had the uterus removed...I feel blessed to feel just like I always have and no problems whatsoever post-op.

Not saying you should have a hysterectomy, I just wanted to express my thoughts that there is a light at the end of the tunnel if you so choose.

Hi, if i were you, i would go have it checked out asap, God forbid it is cancer, they might catch it early if you just started to bleed, i wouldnt wait around
and debate this in your mind, go for it, see whats the problem, if you wait and wait, the bleeding may get worse, possible show signs of something
growing or advancing....go now, and see whats going on. im having a similiar situation, but a bit different, i wish mine could get checked out that easily, my post is the one with the anal cancer heading.....but seriously, dont wait, only way you will find out, is if you listen to what doc says to do, and just get it over with....so you can move on with your life. Sometimes, people
have fears, and think, what if i have this and that....but, i say, wouldnt
you want to catch whatever it is you have as early as possible for better
chance of survival? of course..........so, please go take care of it, and
dont wait any longer, it may be nothing, and if it is something, like i
said, you can catch it early........I wish you all the best, let us know
how you made out..........Anita

HI, I LIVE IN THE UK SO MAYBE THINGS ARE DIFFERENT HERE BUT I ASSUME OUR BODIES ARE STILL THE SAME. I am 55 and had my last period may 2006 then to my surprise had a period in march 2007. For the last year or so i have been bleeding during or after intercorse and my Doctor didnt seem too concerned. I then had another extremely heavy period a few weeks later and decided to go privately for tests. After having an Ultrasound scan of my womb etc. the lining of my womb has thickened and is 7mm which doesnt mean much to me but has concerned my consultant enough to book me in, in a couple of weeks for a D&C AND Hysteroscopy to take samples of the lining of the womb to see if they are cancerous. If not (fingers crossed) they might treat the problem with HRT. Has anyone else been through this and can tell me the results. Maggie55

Thank God i'm in the clear. It was Polyps that was causing the problem. After 2 weeks of waiting for the results you can imagine how stressed i was, so to celebrate my husband took me for 10days to Rhodes ( Greece ) it was a bit hot (45 c in the afternoon) but we enjoyed it very much. Anyway no more bleeding so maybe i can now relax. Hope all is well with your mum.MAGGIE55

Hi Maggie,
I have just come back from having a pelvic ultra sound and was told I have a thickened lining to my womb which would account for heavier bleeding but not as much as I had described as recently I bled or spotted for eight out of nine weeks. I didn't realise that having a thickened lining to your womb could mean anything so was disappointed to learn that it could possibly mean that all is not well. However, since I stopped bleeding 7 weeks ago I have only experienced 2 days of spotting, I haven't got any fibroids or polyps although I passed a polyp in 1991. I think the peri menopause has a lot to answer for and I am not going to spend my life worrying about things as I have far better things to do. I will go for the outpatients appointment which has been arranged for mid January although I had intended not to go. Having recently had a normal result back on the biopsy (apart from noting that I had had a polyp) I thought that all would well be if nothing was found on the scan.

I too have been bleeding every time I have sex and it has got to the point were sex is almost too painful and unbearable at times. The bleeding after sex has happened to me for years, but the pain has occured for the past three years. Interestingly enough, although it is still painful to have sex, I haven't had any bleeding post coitus since I had the biopsy.
I have always been prone to irregular periods and spotting too, so I am delighted to learn that all looks well apart from a thickened womb lining.
Anyway Maggie, I hope all your test results were ok. I hope to God that I don't have to have any further tests. All the best Mo
