View Full Version : Colonoscopy & Menstrual Cycle

I'm scheduled to have a routine colonoscopy on the 18th of August. Unfortunately, it kind of looks like I may be in the midst of my period then. When I scheduled it, I thought I worked it out right and wouldn't be having it; but since then, my periods came a bit earlier than expected...I'm peri-menopausal.:dizzy:

Although I'm not positive this will happen, I wonder if there would be any harm having a colonoscopy during this time..or would it just be that I'd be a bit uncomfortable with the whole idea?

Anyone have this happen? I'm keeping fingers crossed that I don't get it until the day after. I really hate to reschedule as I just want to get this overwith.

The question has come up before. It doesn't make any difference.

Gastros are used to it. Don't worry. Best wishes.

the only downfall is the prep. If you do the pills it may not be so bad but if you have to drink go-lytley it could make your cramps much worse.

I would look into the pills if you are at all able to. otherwise i recommend no solid food for 2-3 days before your test to avoid pain.

Maybe the pain was just that bad for me, but if i had no food at all in my system when prepping, it wouldn't have hurt me soo badly i think.

Good luck and hope its not too uncomfortable for you.

I'm not bothered by cramps too much, so I'm sure I'll be fine. My doctor has done a few surgeries on me, so I feel comfortable with him and I'm sure blood is no big deal to him anyway.

Chances are I won't be "in full bloom" as I call it when I have it done. Probably just the first day which is usually not much.
