I have been on 10 mg a day of lovastatin for 6 weeks now. The last two days my shoulders and arms have been killing me.

I haven't done anything unusual to cause this pain. I work out every other day at Curves and know when I am sore from gardening, etc.

Is it too soon for this to be caused by the lovastatin?

Jane, When I went on Lovastatin within a few weeks I also had a pain that went from my shoulder and radiated across my upper chest. Like you I knew I had not hurt myself and when I went back to the doctor she said it was inflammation of the muscle in my chest. She was convinced that when you get pain from statins it only attacks the bigger muscles of the thigh and leg. Shows how much they know and makes you wonder if they really do read any reports. In my case things only got worse and I stopped taking the statin. Don't ignore anything when you take a statin, be very versed on the side effects.

Jane,

Shoulder and arm pain are very unlikely to be caused by statins, especially a low dose of a weak statin.

Remember, merely taking a statin does not guarantee that we won't get muscle pulls, chostochondritis, ligament tears, arthritis, sprains, nerve impingement, inflamed rotator cuffs, etc., etc.

It is called proximal muscle weakess. Yes is caused by statins and cholesterol lowering medications.

I had very bad side effects from Lipitor and it started in my shoulders and worked its way down to my arms and then to my legs. Yes, Satins can effect your miscles. However not all come down with this ailment, but check the posts and decide for yourself.

I am now off this stuff and Haven't felt better in years. I am on a all natural Lipid reducing protocol that was given to me be by a member of this forum and it does work.

My Dr. says " No moere Satin's for you Ed." That is a powerfull statement, don't you think ??

I think you and I are on the same protocol from the same member of this forum. My guess it is== Beta Stitosterol -- Red Rice yeast -- No Flus Niacin.

YES, IT DOES WORK. In my case it was a litttle to late. I have muscle damage in my legs, but I di feel better and with numbers that are in the normal range.

Yes, it can and I suffered terrible, immobilizing shoulder, arm and back pain till I finally made the link myself and threw the rest of my Lipitor away. I'd been on it a year before the syptoms began, so that just shows you. My doctor agrees that I did the correct thing and I'm off it all for the next three months and we'll check it then. It lowered my number from 242 to 148 but at an awful price. Take my advice and BEWARE!!! I'll never take a statin again.

Join the crowd i'll never take them again either , gave me a permanent severe case of peripheral neuropathy in both feet , to the point I have little to no feeling left in either foot , even at this young (49) age I see where my balance isn't like it used to be . Running or jogging are out of the question , don't wish this nice side effect on anyone.
