Wendy88 08-10-2006, 10:27 PM hi!
i was wondering if others had issues with typical meds not helping their migraines or making them worse. Ive tried relpax, immitrex etc... and they dont do anything. the only thing that works for me is fioranol or fiorecet and percocets (not together obviously).
After a three week on and off migraine, Im now taking at night perc, valium and advil for a few days to try and break the pain cycle.
anyhow- just curious if anyone else gets migraines like me...whihc seem to be more muscular in nature by how only those type of meds work.
they are always on one side of my head...nauseau sometimes but no puking.
i usually get them for three days during my period. ive had MRIs and there is nothing wrong in that respect.
thanks!
Mz Migraine 08-11-2006, 01:13 PM My Neurologist once told me "migraines are like fingerprints. No two people suffer from them exactly alike."
In otherwords, everyone suffers from them in different ways. Reason why it is hard to treat & difficult to find the right and/or correct combination of drugs to control the pain (there is no cure for migraines).
Took me 6 years to find the "right combination of drugs" through a Migraine Management Programe to control my migraines to a comfortable level.
I had to be "weaned" off of Excedrins *first* because they were the cause of "Rebound Headaches".
Wendy88 08-11-2006, 11:04 PM yes - vicodens give me a rebound migraine if i take them for more than one day. that is the worst. I was once given them when i pulled out my back and I had to take them for 4 days in a row. that 4th day my headache was worse than the slipped disk!
anyhow you are right. migraines are frustrating as they are hard to treat. And of course the frustration leads to more headaches! :)
thanks for the advice!

fiorecet was the only drug that helped me but my doctor and most people on this board do not like to give this drug out or take it. I do not know why since it is not a controlled drug. Vicodine my doctor will give me but that I will not take since I do get sick on it and it is addicting. Right know I take elival and neurontin which I have been taking for RSD but I just take a higher dose of neuronton and I also am on beta blockers. I Still suffer but I feel like I am out of options.
Wendy88 08-13-2006, 08:27 PM what is elival? (and what is RDS?)
i took neurontin for a while for my lower back issues... it was great! but i didnt notice if it helped with migraines.
lorriem 08-13-2006, 08:46 PM I meant RSD and that is Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. I got that when I broke my wrist in the early 90's and this board has a site for that health issue. It is simply put nerve pain.Elavil is amitriptylin and its major use is for depression but they found out that it does help with pain.
cjrodkey 08-15-2006, 07:50 AM Me too, except it's darvocet for me. Same symtoms too, incredible pain ( sometimes focused, sometimes diffuse) & nausea, and I also get this very loud ringing in my ears. All the triptans and other acute relief drugs were either ineffective or actually made the pain worse. Rebound headaches can be the curse of this 'cure', but one has to get through the day and sometimes there is no other way.
Good luck
Wendy88 10-14-2006, 11:51 PM i realize this post is a little old... but i just wanted to say thanks for the responses. :)
interesting to see that you need darvocet... like me in the way that only pain killers seem to work. im thinking of topomax to try... i dont get migraines all the time any more, but i can feel on the verge of one often and never know what i should do.
im not sure what else my choices are as so much doesnt work for me...
hmm.
I see my doc. on the 18th, so I'll post what we end up deciding to do.
twentytwo100 10-21-2006, 12:58 PM yeah.. i have been taking vicodin for my headaches... for about a month now.. it is the ONLY thing that takes away the pain.. OR makes me not care... and keeps me AWAKE and able to function.. but now i'm reading, that maybe that's the reason my headaches are SO bad..... so i guess it's time to "wean" myself off.
should be an interesting couple of days....
thewarrior 10-21-2006, 02:54 PM Fiorinal #3 is the only thing that works for me. Tried other Meds but they didn't seem to help. When I have a Sinus headache, nothing works but Fiorinal #3. Fiorcet didn't even help. My Dr's don't seem to have a problem perscibing this to me.
Yes, it even works for Sinus Headaches.
I posted another tread that I had a sinus headache for 3 weeks, which I took 1 Fiornal everyday - got a Cortizone shot (for imflamation) and the headaches went away.
ttwarrior1 10-22-2006, 01:28 PM i have massive headaches next to my ears and my temples, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Always there but worse at times.
How come he has me just taking one acetaminophen, cafeine, codeine tablet a day . Should i be taking more or something stronger. I dont see anyone on these boards taking this

I also just read the generic on this isnt recommended but i think i have the generic one, wow
Wendy88 10-22-2006, 06:04 PM i take that pill (minua the codine) for my daytime headaches.. I think it's fioracet or fioranol... one of those. anyhow ...it sounds like you may want to talk to your doctor about a daily medication to see if it will help you. There are other things to try that might help you and your daily headaches. it can't hurt to ask your doctor what your other options might be. Also the codine in that med might end up giving you rebound headaches...
good luck!
ttwarrior1 10-22-2006, 10:35 PM i dont know what a rebound headache is cause i have it all the time, fioricat has codeine in it or at least mine does
Wendy88 10-22-2006, 10:41 PM well, a rebound headache is a headache that is caused (for whatever reason, I dont really know) by narcotics like the pain killers we take...
my doctor told me that if i take too many fioracets (or whichever one has the codine in it) that i might end up giving/ extending my heacache cycle by the narcotic in the pill giving me a rebound headache.
don't get me wrong, im sure your daily headaches are indeed daily headaches, but sometimes codine etc... can end up back firing if it's taken too often. I have to be careful of the same thing since I take percocets for the most part. if i take them too often, i can end up having add'l headaches from the medication itself... make sense?
lol.. its all so complicated! I hope your headaches get better!
