I'd like to start off my saying that I'm quite a fit person, like to eat right and go to the gym daily. However, my mother was adopted and I do not know if there is any history of heart disease on her side of the family.

The past few nights I have been having trouble getting to sleep due to a breathing problem it seems. Right when I dose off I'm aroused with the sensation that I am out of breath/have stopped breathing. However, after i do fall asleep it doesn't seem to bother me anymore. Now every once in a while I feel something like a heart palpitation. It feels almost like my heart contracts extra hard for one beat then its gone. The breathing problem does not get worse with exertion/exercise and neither does the irregular beat. Oh and sometimes the breathing is accompanied by an unusually loud heartbeat. When this happens i tend to check my heatbeat but when i do it seems fine. Has anyone else had problems like these?

blatz,

That sounds more like anxiety/panic than heart disease. Try to do some exercise before bedtime, that might help.
