Hi
I posted on here a while back with problems with mirena. They couldn't find the strings etc to remove it and I had such terrible stomach aches with it.
Well I feel so happy that I had it removed yesterday - I had to have an operation to remove it but it was worth it. can let my body get back to normal now.
Just wanted to say that if you are thinking of getting the mirena you should think about the case that they can't simply remove it and you will have to have an operation to get it removed. If I had known the risks of having to have an op to take this thing out I would never have had it put in. There was also another woman on the list having the same thing done - its more common than we are told that it goes missing!

Can i ask how they removed it? I have the paragaurd IUD and am very happy with it but honestly i haven't felt the strings(only a day or two before my period) and now a bit worried that they will be a hard time removing it. Thanks:)

Yep, I'm the other one that had to have it surgically removed. Thank GOODNESS for insurance! I had to have it surgerically removed because they couldn't remove it manually after trying twice, once being during an ultrasound. It was too painful to bear (Lord I dread childbirth if I ever have kids!). They went in there and removed it under anesthesia, as well as did a dnc and a laprascopy to look at my ovaries (I have PCOS).
I got my period about a month afterwards and yes, it was a very heavy flowing period. However, I feel better actually not having that thing in me. Too many effects for me personally. I know they help some, but for me it did more damage than good.
I'll say this...it was VERY painful to go in...and was painful to try to get it out! However, it was very cost effective as compared to being on the pill. Weigh your options and consider the consequences. Make sure the doctor that prescribes it to you is also capable of doing surgery if needed in a worse case scenario.

HI
Im glad to hear things are better for you now KYCountryGirl. I remember your posts were about the same time as I was going to get mine sorted out. I had to wait for the NHS to remove mine. I was wondering when my period would arrive, I have been bleeding a little but not unexpected.
Jenn1v, the way they remove it with surgery is to do a hysteroscopy - they put me under general anaesthetic, and put a thin camera through my cervix into my womb, and then find and remove the coil.
However before this I had been to my drs too - like doing a smear she put the clamp in and looked around for the strings. Its not painful.
I then went to hospital clinic where they also tried to remove it - they basically have longer tweezers that can go further into the cervix - I took a painkiller in advance and asked them to go really slow and they took it slowly - this is more painful but it was bearable with a good dr. Most people they can take the coil out with this method without resorting to an op.
Fingers crossed you will be fine.
Best wishes
