I just got my labs back today. I had problems with Lipitor and Zocor, so they were discontinued about 7 months ago. I agreed to TRY Pravachol to see if I could drive my LDL down lower. Here's the numbers...
Total Cholesterol-196
HDL-46
LDL-129
Triglycerides-107
And a PSA of 0.38 which really seems very low-lower than it has ever been.
I'm to take 20mg of Pravachol and check back for more labs in 3 months.
Personally, the numbers don't look that bad to me. I'm surprised actually that they were that low just on diet alone. Anyone agree....and think 20 mg of a weak statin like Pravachol will be enough? I will not take the stronger statins again. I'm just now getting back to nearly 100%. I've been taking 100 mg of COQ-10 for 7 months and plan to continue that.

Frankly, I wouldn't take anything right now and I would recheck the numbers in 3 to 6 months. They are pretty good now.;)

carbuff,
I wouldn't medicate those numbers unless I had a couple other risk factors for heart disease.

Thanks guys for weighing in on this. I guess the Dr. sees it like this...my LDL was 71 when I was on Lipitor (which my system has decided I can no longer handle). So, to him my LDL has almost doubled. He says that in any case, it should be below 100. I have no other risk factors that I am aware of. My Mother is almost 91. My Dad died at 67 of a heart attack-BUT, he was a smoker and a pretty heavy drinker of Jack Daniels. I do not smoke and only rarely will I have a beer. I'd have a glass of wine now and then which I think would be good for the arteries, but it gives me such a headache the next day I don't.

Your doctor should READ more:
The current tight standard of <100 LDL is for people with heart disease or high risk of it.
For others <130 is the desired goal.
Previous standards were for normal risk people to hold to <160 and high risk people <130.
