I recently had to switch from OrthoTricyclin Lo(was on it for 3 yrs) to TriNessa due to insurance reasons. I've been on this pill for 3 wks now and have just started spotting. My ques is does this mean the pill isn't strong enough for my body? I thought it was the generic form of Ortho Lo so how could that be? When i made the switch my dr told me to just start the new pill pack right after my period which i did, but i thought you always had to wait like a month in between after switching pills is that true? Lastly I'm worried that since i am spotting i may become pg is that possible? Any responses would be appreciated.

Hello! I believe Trinessa is the generic of the regular OTC, not OTC Lo. I was on Lo for about a year but kept having spotting so I had to go back to the higher dose, which is Trinessa. I'm just finishing up my 2nd month on it. I had some really light spotting last month for a few days....the doctor says it should go away after the 3rd pack. I would give it a few months if I were you, and see if it continues to happen. I've switched bcp's a lot within the past 6 months, I never waited a month in between. Hope this helps a little!

Trinessa is the generic for OTC nor OTC Lo. I also had spotting for a couple of months when I switched, not sure why. I have heard somewhere that while most generic drugs are the exact chemical equivalent of their brand name, for some reason it is slightly different with BCP's. This could explain the spotting. However, there is no need to wait another month before you are protected. If you switch pill brands but go straight into the new pack you are protected.
