How do I find a good ob/gyn that specializes in hpv/cervical cancer? Last Dec. I had a colposcopy done and the results were mild dysplaysia. I had a repeat pap done in June and my ob/gyn said there haven't been any changes and just to come back in another 6 months. I worry about the mild turning to severe and then to cancer. I like my doctor but would feel safer going elsewhere to a specialist. Where do I even begin to locate one? (I'm in the Philadelphia/Suburbs area.)

Hi lam2703 - I think its wise that you want to talk to someone else about your condition. The more information you have the more in control you are of your own health. You are lucky you live near a large metropolitan area where there are so many specialists. I would check with hospitals in the area to see if they have women's health specialty centers. Also some universities work in conjunction with teahcing hospitals where doctors may be working on researching this, and they sometimes see patients. I used to live near Baltimore, MD and Johns Hopkins was rated the best in that area. I know Philadelphia has some good centers also. Does your insurance give you the ability to see doctors outside of your coverage area or network? Also ask around to other women you know. I use the find a doctor link in my health insurance plan to search for specialists. There are also find doctor searches on line which may be able to help you find someone in your area who specializes in hpv infection. Good luck!
