Cutting back on carbohydrates will lower your triglycerides.

Triglycerides tend to bump up and down a lot, and your next test will probably be a lot lower. 170 isn't that high anyway, so I wouldn't be too concerned. Having said that, carbs and alcohol consumption increase triglycerides, so avoiding them should keep you tri's down.

Cheers,

also I would double check your HGBA1C and blood sugar random... Sometimes that will be high and cause your tri's to go up as well...

My husband has high cholesterol. Taking Crestor lowered his cholesterol, but like you, then his triglycerides went up. Sorry you can't take fish oil, that really helped him get his trigylcerides back to normal.

Larry,

Since cholesterol works by tying up cholesterol rich bile in your intestines and preventing resorption by the liver...thus ultimately lowering blood cholesterol.
There's no mechanism to get at your triglycerides and so that change is probably the normal ebb and flow of triglycerides that are very dependent on the last meal or two, precise length of fast, exertion, etc.

I wouldn't worry about the occasional 170. On the day before your next blood draw, avoid sugar and alcohol, eat sparingly, and you'll probably get a very good number.
