Last Tuesday night, I was awaken with severe pain coming from what I think was my rectum. It hurt from the bottom of my tailbone to my anus for about 15min. The pain was horrendous. I had a small bowel movement and went and laid down. In 30min it was gone, the problem is, ever since then I have had abdominal discomfort, irregular bowel movements and the feeling of being tired all the time. I feel like im constipated, but I dont know. I have had this happen before in the past, but it usually went away within a few weeks. The only difference this time is the fatigue I feel with the abdominal discomfort. Let me not fail to mention that this past Friday I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and that could be causing my fatigue, but im on antibiotics for that. Does anyone have any guesses as to what this might be and when I should go to the doctor about it. I havent had pain as severe as last tuesday since then, but what should I do? Im scared.

Might be Proctalgia Fugax.

Proctalgia Fugax is a severe, cramp-like pain, (in the area you described). It usually lasts for a few minutes, but can sometimes last for up to half an hour. You may feel a need to defecate urgently, but nothing happens. It may even make you feel dizzy, or give you a headache and the pain is known to often wakes sufferers at night. Abdominal discomfort nor fatique are known to be symptoms of protalgia fugax, these two last symptoms just might be do to your antibiotic or your sinus infection.

There are also other problems that may cause pain in that area, so to be on the safe side it is always best to mention it to your doctor.

Edited to add: It is a mysterious condition; no-one knows what causes it, but most docs think it is probably a spasm of the rectal or pelvic floor muscles.

Thank you for answering. My rectum still feels sore and I have been having more than usual bowel movements since yesterday. My abdomen feels bloated. Do you think thats what could be causing this? Should I go see a gastroenterologist? Thanks for your help!!

It is always adivsable to mention any pain to your doctor. In this case, yes, a gastroenterologist would be your best choice. You also may want to do a google search on proctalgia fugax, you might find some more information regarding this condition.
