View Full Version : What is wrong with my teeth? Worried!

I have noticed over the past few months that a few of my teeth up by the gumline have worn away is the best I can describe it.
One of my top teeth and then 3 lower teeth on the left side have a clear looking spot like the enamel is gone from them.
If I brush over it with a toothbrush sometimes I get this sharp, horrible pain like I have just hit the nerve of my tooth or if I touch it with my fingernail I feel like I'm going to die! Its like I just touched the nerve directly.
My mom says she had the same problem with a few of her teeth but her dentist told her she was brushing her teeth too hard and she did wear her enamel away.
Could that be it or is this something else? Gingivitis? Any ideas, does anyone else have this problem with any of their teeth? Is there any way to make that enamel grow back or reverse this?
I am very worried because I don't have insurance and can't afford to go to the dentist. Please help me, tell me what to do.

That sounds about right. I believe a new product was recently introduced by J&J or ACT that repairs the enamel over time. Its some type of rinse or tooth paste. You can also try brushing with sensodyne on a regular basis and that should reduce the sensitivity. Or, after brushing, put the sensodyne on the teeth affected and leave it there for a few mins and then just rinse it off. Do this for a week or so. The alternative would be that your dentist could put some bonding on the affected areas if its really bothersome and should help as well. It does generally come from brushing too hard and receding gums - so maybe you should go to your dentist or a perio and be checked for gingivitis or pockets in the gum line - the first signs of perio disease. Pretty easy to treat and not too costly in the early stages.
