View Full Version : Wisdom teeth woes - I'm scared and confused.

I've had my two top wisdom teeth removed 1 year apart (top left in 2004 - no problem, it came out with a push and a tug - by a dentist I had for almost 20 years).

My top right was more akward, My regular dentist was on vacation and I was in too much pain to wait 3 months for him to come back. The entist was very weak and had to reef, twist, and yank on this tooth to get the dang thing out - it shattered around the edges before it came out.

I was spitting out tooth chunks for a week and my molar directly next to it was loose for a few months. I was on some serious pain meds for almost 2 weeks, and the whole side of my face was bruised and swollen (picture someone getting hit in the face with a baseball bat) - and here's me one week after it was finished getting a tattoo.. crazy me.

Anyway, both dentists (the good one I've got and the quack) told me that I will need to see a specialist about both wisdom teeth on the bottom, apparently the roots are too close to nerves and if it is extracted normal, it will sever the nerves and I will lose permanent feeling in my jaw, tongue and cheek.

They say that it was have to be surgically removed, and the cost will be about $3000 Canadian. I would like to know HOW these teeth will be removed. The quack told me they will have to break my jaw in two sections... the good doctor told me that it may not be necessary to do so (I had been told a few years before by a different dentist in another City that my jaw would have to be broken in two spots).

Does anyone know? Because I'm going to need them out SOON (they will NOT just do one at a time, because it is considered a complicated surgery, they both said that both bottom teeth will have to be done). I am getting pains again, it comes and goes, but i know soon it will come and wont' go away.
