Is spotting like the blood you get in between your period? Or is it something else? It is confusing because I am taking my active pills right now and seeing very light colored blood. It is so light that I can just use a panty liner.

However, I had sex with my boyfriend last night and a lot of blood came out, like a normal period! I don't know what's going on. But this spotting thing is getting very annoying!

Spotting is any kind of light bleeding between periods, while breakthrough bleeding is more like a period between a period because it's more bleeding involved.

In any case, I've said this before here and I'll say it again. You're on birth control pills, you might as well get used to spotting and/or breakthrough bleeding. It's extremely common and happens to pretty much anyone who has ever been on the pill. It sucks and it's annoying. But it's because you're on the pill that it's happening.

Any time you're on the pill and you have any kind of "unexplained" bleeding between periods, it's because you're on the pill. It's an inevitable problem that a ton of women go through every single day who are on the pill. The only thing you can do is keep switching pills until you find one that doesn't make you bleed or you can quit birth control all together (which is a better option in the long run).

This sucks. I thought that most women take bc pills to either regulate their periods so they won't bleed as much, or because they don't have to worry about getting pregnant.

But what's the point if bc pills just makes us bleed all the time. We can't have sex anyways!!!!!

Well, it's not supposed to be a constant bleeding thing. It's supposed to only happen sporadically. But the fact that it happens at all is what's really annoying.

So, some women choose to keep switching pills until they find one that doesn't make them have spotting. And some women have been successful in finding a pill that works for them. But for others, the spotting happens at times when they're not expecting it and it just ruins everything and it's the biggest PITA in the world.

I didn't spot for the first three months. I spotted a lot, almost 3 weeks for the 4th month because I skipped my period by continuing to take the active pills. Then I let my period come and everything was fine. This is the 5th month. I am on my last week of active pills, and I am spotting again.

I don't know if I'll keep spotting month every month from now on, which I hope won't happen!!!!!!!

I definitely agree with Bracelet. I had to try 3 or 4 different pills because of issues with spotting. And even when you find the right pill you may have success with it for a while and then start spotting constantly on it and have to switch again! (which happened to me) I am a "spotter" and have to be very diligent about taking my pills at the same or around the same time everyday, not missing pills or else I will spot. I also recommend not skipping the placebo pills and just continuing on with the active. While it may work for other women, I can say from experience that if you lean towards spotting, this will definitely make it worse. I have experienced ALL of the same things that you are talking about, where I will get light spotting towards the end of the active pills and increased spotting after sex. I just recommend being diligent about always taking your pills and if that doesn't help, switch to another pill!

I have been taking the pills around the same time every day. I think the most I've missed was 30 minutes. But that was only one time and it was a while ago. But why do we spot when taking bc pills? I don't know the reason behind it. Well, I'm taking Alesse and my doctor said since it's low dose, people have less problems with it.

This is only the 5th month I'm on it, so I don't know if I should switch right now or give it some more time.
