I was just wondering, have any of you found any medication that somewhat worked for you without making you extremly tired or without huge side effects. My H has tried pretty much everything, and won't take med's, maybe there is something out there he hasn't tried yet... ANy suggestions would be great!
Thanks
Angie

Sorry to hear about your husband. I know my family
has suffered greatly for my bipolar illness. I
imagine your husband has tried "lithium". It's the
only one I've tried that helps the bipolar although
it doesn't do anything for the depression. I can
say over the last 9 yrs different doctors have made
every effort to take me off of it and try the new
drugs, which were awful, they didn't work and had
terrible side effects. There is a fairly new drug
called "Geodon" that's helpful for paranoia type
thoughts that was suggested to me but I'm so drug
senitive I choose not to try it. If your interested you can lookup the side effects of any med online below are a few sites I use. Good Luck, Kiehn http://health.yahoo.com/health/drugs/a.html http://www.rxlist.com/

There are clinical trials that might be useful to your H. They are coming out with newer drugs that are in the final stages of being FDA approved (researched for years already) that have minimal side effects.
You can get a trail of these normally unattainable drugs for free. It doesn't hurt to check it out.

Is he really both Biplar & schizophrenic..
or perhaps Bipolar- paranoid or
schizoaffective- schizophrenic type

An acurate diagnosis will also help intreating the illness.

My wife has suffered from mental illness for about 10 years. I have heard many different words and phases used to describe her condtion. However, during our latest visit to the hospital the doctor there diagnosed her with bipolar disorder, although he said it might also be "schizoaffective".

We have tried many medications over the years, which did not have conclusive benefits and most had signficant negative side affects. Our latest doctor recommend ECT (electo convulsive therapy -- in layemens terms, shock therapy). The procedure sounds so very primitive and barbaric that I was very reluctant to approve/cooperate with idea. However, now that we have done it, I can say that if my wife gets sick again, I will immediatey seek out and insist upone this course of action. It was scary, but it seemed to work.

I'd be happy to discuss further.
