View Full Version : Sneezing in the Fall

Okay! It's that time again! Every year my boyfriend goes through the same thing. We can even pinpoint the week it is going to begin. The second week of August he goes from being perfectly fine to being a sneezing mess. It seems to hit him right after he wakes up, and then later in the evening. He's a repetitive sneezer, so often he just sneezed through his morning routine. I think he may actually have it down to a science ~ combining his sneezing with his morning activities!! Still, I can't help but feel bad for him --- it sometimes wakes him from his sleep and he has to sneeze 10 or so times before he can go back to bed. Anyone else having this problem in the fall??? This usually continues till about the middle of October. We can't really afford to medicate with anything but over the counter rememdies, and they don't seem to do much. I guess we were just wondering if everyone else was having the sneezies, too!!!!:D

Oh the infamous ragweed allergy. Ragweed is the most common pollen allergen and it is perfect because it travels so well in the air and the plant releases them in huge numbers. Pollen levels are highest in the morning and evening. The wind currents rise mid day and take the pollen to a higher elevation. Can you all keep your windows closed during the ragweed season? Also if your boyfriend can shower before bed and remove the pollen from his hair he could get a break from the allergen overnight. Good Luck.

We do not have air conditioning --- just units, so some of the windows have to stay open. Plus, he is very stubborn about showering before he goes to bed. Would rather do it in the morning --- I guess he just likes to be miserable! Actually, even if he showers before we go to bed, he still wakes up sneezing.

Absolutely agree it's the ragweed. Get some Zyrtec. You can order it online OTC from Canada under the name Cetirizine very cheaply.

I have the same allergy- have had it all my life, and was pretty sure it was Ragweed. Starting at the beginning of August, I wake up in the morning, sneeze a thousand times, go to work with a runny nose, am fine all day while I'm inside, go home, am still pretty good all night, with occasional sneezing later in the evening, and then it starts all over again the next day. I hate it when I wake up in the morning on weekends just to roll over to go back to sleep, but my nose decides to get all sneezy and keeps me up for a half hour.
I'm stubborn, so I don't take any meds for it.
I never knew pollen counts were higher in the morning and at night. That's interesting.

Believe me, I know! Last night he was a wreck ~ sneezing all night long, every fifteen minutes another 3 or 4 times. Waking up in the middle of the night all stuffed up ~ getting up this morning and sneezing again. I hope he is okay at work today. He said he went through half a box of tissues yesterday. I bet they love him at work!
