I popped my jaw while eating a chicken sandwich and it appears the disc is displacing cause everytime I chew it pops and deviates slightly.
If there is no pain, does anyone know if there is any treatment for this?
Thank you!

Yes there are treatments for this.
Find a GOOD TMJ specialist. That can be a major task in and of itself.
Don't worry that you messed yourself up permanently or something. There are treatments that are successful, you just need to find a really good specialist who won't mess you up more.
Read through the threads about conservative treatments, and recommended doctors. Then do your own research. You need to do more research with this issue than say any other joint, because it tends to be harder to get quality care for the TMJ joint.

What are the conservative treatments? I saw 3 doctors but none of them were tmj specialists and said that they could do nothing for me except surgery. Is there really anything you can do for a disc that is displacing without surgery?

You know it would be good to start a thread on this- but with so many threads running this way and that, let's start one that will be clear and visible.

Hello,
Conservative treatments are neuromuscular treatments and splint treatments by way of FJO. YOU DON'T NEED SURGERY FOR DISPLACED DISC.

Hello,
YES i am positive. In fact, i saw cases where patients that had severe tmj were treated successfully with splints. Splint therapy really works. But it is just really difficult to find a honest and trustworthy dentist. And let's not forget that dentistry isn't rocket science.

I'd like to learn more about splint therapy. Could you start a thread on Splint therapy and inform us of the details, success rates, etc?
Also details on how to find someone who knows their stuff.

I had TMJ a few years ago to the point where i couldnt open my mouth more than an inch. i went to get surgery and realized it was going to be a lot more expensive than what I could afford.
The solution that worked for me was wearing a plastic sport mouth guard molded to my teeth every night while i slept (The kind you can buy for $5 at any sports equipment store). The doctor told me TMJ could be caused by griding teeth, which Im not sure I do.. but the mouth guard relaxes and prevents your jaw from closing too far.
So before going under the knife, try this cheap solution.
