I can't understand why when you go to the CDC website they show data from 2002 in which 12,085 women in the US were diagnosed with cervical cancer. This can't be an accurate figure. There are 300 Mil people in the US, of which just over half are WOMEN! I know two people personally, plus all the people on this board and the people they might now. And all the people who aren't on this board, etc, etc. Why don't they show data from 2005? I just seems like that are so many inaccuracies out there surrounding this form of cancer. From the way they detect it to the way they report it.

So according to them only 0.07% of the population gets cervical cancer, not even 1%!!

Do you guys think this seems wrong????

Dysplasia isn't counted as cancer.

I know it seems odd, but invasive cervical cancer really isn't that common. The stats for cervical pre-cancer (dysplasia) would reveal much much higher numbers. The low number for invasive cervical cancer is actually really encouraging to me, it means that more cases of pre-cancer are being caught and treated.

I had my first appt. with my oncologist today, and I asked him this question. He Said that the number is represented in correctly. There are 12,080 deaths from cervical cancer each year. There are far many more actual cancer diagnosis that have great outcomes with women living full lives and having children. This is why we all know at least 1 person wether it be a friend of a friend etc, that has had this diagnosis in the past.

He was a wealth of knowledege and made everything very easy to understand. And he put the cure rate in perspective for me which greatly improved my confidence in getting through this sucessfully!
