View Full Version : What's causing this dizziness?

OK, bit of a long one, so bear with me!

Back in 1998 I was diagnosed with erythema nodosum, caused by penicillin/amoxycillin. Since then, I have avoided these types of antibiotic, and if I do need them, I am usually given clarithromycin.

I have always suffered with throat problems, and am oftem at the doctors, being told it's viral, and will go away on it's own, which it usually does. Every few months or so, I am hit with a bad infection, and need antibiotics. The last time I went, the nurse said it was a shame about my penicillin allergy, as it tends to work better and faster with throat infections. So, when I went to the nurse yesterday with an infection, she asked me if I was ok with penicillin, and remembering what she said last time, plus being in a hell of alot of pain, I said yes.

Since then, I have had lots of small dizzy spells, and drunk feelings, but I'm not sure if this could be caused by the penicillin or not? I also suffer with post-natal depression, so am taking citalopram too - could this have an effect?

I don't know what to do - my throat is agony, but I feel awful, and don't want to stop the penicillin in case it isn't that.

Can anyone help?!

It's impossible to say, but it maybe could be a reaction to the penicillin. You need to call the nurse back and alert her to your allergy, and let her decide.
