For those of you that take garlic for herpes, how much do you take? I just bought a bottle of enteric coated garlic tablets, "allium sativum" (bulb), and they are 400mg. It says equivalent to 1,200mg of fresh garlic bulb. Do I take one per day? How much does everyone who takes it here take?

Thanks,
Katalina

I've had herpes for years now and have come off acyclovir...does garlic really work?

I think that garlic may work for some people and not others, just because everyone is different. Garlic has amazing immune system enhancing properties. I started taking garlic almost two weeks ago now and I am amazed because this is the first time since I contracted herpes I believe back in February that I haven't had prodromal symptoms or actual bumps. I was having EXCRUCIATING herpes symptoms DAILY, and since I started taking garlic, I've only had an ever so slight tingle here and there. I think I should start mentstruating soon (I have long and irregular cycles so I'm not totally sure) but that will be the real test. Every month on top of the daily mini-outbreaks and tingles I have a SEVERE outbreak either right before, during, or directly after my period. Every time I get a severe OB, I can't seem to get it to go away, either. So, I haven't yet had my period while taking garlic, so we shall see if it is actually helping me or not. I know that the symptoms of the virus often get a a lot better after the sixth month mark, so maybe that is what is happening to me as well, but either way, I can't help but believe that garlic is what is effective for me! Serioiusly, even if the garlic ISN'T helping my herpes, I'm going to keep taking it just because it's so good for you--the health benefits are endless.

Take Care,
Katalina

GREAT ADVICE - THANKS! I'll have to start on the garlic...I've had herpes for 10 years now (I'm 33) and it actually seems to get worse. I took acyclovir for 4 yearrs with a break of about 2 months every now and again, During this break I would get a really nasty OB every 2-3 weeks so in what seemes like constant pain/itchyness. I'm off the acyclovir for good and looking at other herbal ways to control it so I'll give garlic and other things a go - somethings got to help as its driving me crazy!
