View Full Version : Left wondering after re-pap post LEEP

First when I had my LEEP done my doc told me my margins were clear, however my canal was inconclusive. He said at this appointment that my margins were inconclusive. I will admit I have been dealing with a HUGE amount of stress since my LEEP so maybe I am wrong on that. Maybe he did say my margins and my canal.

My next problem is that he told me not to excpect a phone call unless my results from this pap are worse then the results from my last pap. My last pap showed CINII and CINIII. Wouldn't you think they would call if it was abnormal at all?? He said if I wanted to know the results to call in 3 and 1/2 weeks. Then he told me the normal we will re-pap every four months until I have 3-4 "normal" results. Then every 6 until I have 4-5 normal paps. He then stated he would NOT do another colposcopy for at least a year, no matter what the results are unless it shows cancer. Now call me crazy, but that doesn't seem like the thing to do. This same doctor has stressed again and again that CINIII is ONE step before cancer. We have to treat it. If I wasn't surfing the web constantly he probably would have scared me to death with his choice of words, but now he is saying a year even if it if CINIII before he does a colposcopy?? I don't get it at all. It scares me. I am 22 with no children and don't want to end up needing a hysterectomy all because he feels he doesn't "want" to do another colposcopy.

Should I seek a second opinion if my results come back any other way then "normal"?

Curls, I think to ease your mind, you might want to seek a second opinion. You are smart to question your doctor. Here is what my doctor has told me since we have similar situations--at my last visit on Friday for my pap, she told me to go ahead and schedule another pap smear for three months later with hopes that my pap smear would come back normal. If my pap smear is abnormal, even if it just shows mild dysplasia, my doctor will start the whole process over again. So, I will be going back in for another colposcopy, biopsy, and then who knows what.

If my pap smear comes back normal, I will be on a 3 month rotation of pap smears for a while (oh joy) and then to six months, and then back to yearly pap smears.

As for receiving my results, I will receive a call from the doctor. Well, most likely the call will come from one of her nurses. My doctor told me it could take 3 weeks and that I will receive a call regardless of the results.

I'm trying to keep control of my thoughts right now but it is difficult. I do find comfort in knowing that many women still experience an abnormal pap smear after a LEEP. It doesn't necessarily mean that more surgery is required or that fertility will be compromised. I'm trying to remember this as I prepare myself for the results. Since I did not receive clear margins, I am much more worried. I had mild dysplasia found in my canal. That scares me because it seems everything has progressed quickly for me.

Curls, good luck. You are still in my prayers. I know you are scared but everything is going to be okay. You are young and have youth on your side to beat this. The key is for us to take care of ourselves in every way possible.

Hang in there and please post back often. Since we are going through the same thing, it helps to hear from a person in a similar situation.

Take care!

Everything your doctor said is what I expected to hear from mine. Instead he tells me he won't do ANYTHING but pap for at least a year. Seems odd to me. Why would you wait for a year and see what CINII or CINIII turned into?? Some doctors don't even take that method with CINI let alone CINII or CINIII. I guess I have to wait and see what the results are before I get all worked up about it. If it comes back "normal" then I have nothing to worry about. However, even if they come back normal I may go elsewhere for the rest of my follow up paps.

No worries I will keep posting and keep you in my prayers as well! Good Luck!

I don't understand why he refuses to do a colpo for a year if you have known CIN II or CIN III. If I had CIN III I'd be sure to get a colpo as soon as I could.

That's what I plan on. Even if I have to go else where, which I do plan on doing as soon as I get my results back, whether they are normal or not. Just a run down of what this doc has told me. I spoke with my cousin last night to make sure I remember correctly what he said at every appointment as she has gone with me, she said yes and agreed I need to find a new doctor.

When he got my first pap back (after my cryo which is when I switched to this doc from a clinic, I finally got ins) he said it came back as CINII and CINIII. He then did a biopsy which showed only CINI. He then stated that he probably biopsied the wrong spots because the pap showed CINI and CINII. Which is not what he originally told me he told me it showed CINII and CINIII.

Then when my LEEP results came back and he told me my margins were clear but my cervical canal was inconclusive. His exact words were "It could be cancer, I can't tell you." Nice. Then with my appointment yesterday when I asked if this pap would show what was in the canal, he stated there was one spot where he didn't know if the margins were clear and it was not the cervical canal.

The thing is he has said time and time again, "One step before cancer" my cousin that went to these appointments with me seriously thought I was going to get cancer and die, because of the words this doctor used. I had to show her articles online to calm HER down. Now he doesn't even want to treat it if it comes back as CINIII "One step before cancer". It just doesn't seem like he has a clue.

He also told me he did not do an HPV test when I asked, he said you have it. If you have dysplasia, you have it. Which I am not arguing that I had at one point and time, but I do have a mother that had cervical cancer, a grandmother that had it, I smoke, and I am on the pill. All things some studies DO associate with cervical cancer as well. Well I had to have a copy of my pap results for ins reasons and the HPV test results were on there, and it was negative. Even if I had it at one time, or even if I still have it and it is dormant, I have seen the numbers, but why would you lie about doing the test, let alone test results?? Unless he didn't even read them. Which seems to maybe be the case about a whole lot of things. Or maybe a scare tactic. I don't need scare tactics, I am scared enough.

I think I need to ask for a copy of my entire file to see how all of these test results came out and then find a new doctor. How do I get a copy of my file? If I just ask for it will they give it to me? Do they have to give it to me?
