View Full Version : First IUI - Painful?!?

Hello again,

Well I had my first IUI today also. Frankly it wasn't what I was expecting! For me it ended up being quite painful. (They ended up having to use the tennaculum too... what is that for anyways??) The cramping didn't last long, but I feel soreness inside yet 12 hours later. I had quite a bit of bleeding at the time of the IUI and still have a lot of spotting so I really don't feel we can do the BD tonight. Maybe tomorrow if my BBT isn't up....

Also have to vent - I'm also very unhappy with the clinic in general, didn't return my first call this morning to schedule - I had to keep calling them back, RE is on vacation so I didn't even know the doctor who would be doing my IUI 'til she walked in the room. Didn't have the IUI done 'til 2 hours after DH did his part. (1 hour wash, 1 hour just waiting around!)

Still frustrated but at the same time hopeful! :dizzy:

Beck,

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the IUI yesterday. I had my IUI yesterday also. I had some moderate to severe cramping during the procedure, and I had moderate cramping the rest of the day too (despite Tylenol). For my IUI, a doctor didn't do it, it was the nurse! I was a little surprised about that, but I guess she does this all day, every day. I didn't have any spotting for my IUI, but I have heard of others who have. Maybe they had troubles inserting the catherter through your cervix? When I had my HSG test done, that happened, and they had to use some instrument to better grasp my cervix and push the catheter through, and that hurt! Then of course the HSG itself was even worse, but I think due to all that grabbing they had to do, I had spotting all day afterwards. But whatever caused the spotting, hopefully your little spermies are safe inside your uterus going to their goal!
If you are unhappy with your clinic, can you switch RE's? That's one possibility. I have considered that myself, just because of some little things with my RE also. But I'm gonna stick with mine for a few more months at least. Maybe this will be your month for your BFP...wouldn't that be great, then you won't even have to worry about RE's anymore!! :)
Good luck this month, and baby dust to everyone. ;)
