Hi....

Wellbutrin is known for causing weight loss in most people who take the med. I lost a little weight when I first began taking the drug but then was placed on Abilify which caused me to gain weight so then it canceled the weight loss out.

The average weight loss for Wellbutrin is 8-10 pounds from what I have read. Some people lose more or less; it depends on each person as every drug effects each person differently.

More than likely if your pdoc prescribed Wellbutrin, you are more apt to lose some weight with it. ;) Don't be afraid of it. Give it a try!

I take it..... It is a great med.

thank you for replying Coffeegirl,

i too am on abilify (5mg at night) and the doctor says if I become hypo manic that she may have to up the abilify. i'm also on 250mg lamictal and would like to get off of the lamictal if the wellbutrin is going to help the depression and the abilify the hypo. are you just taking the abilify wellbutrin cocktail? just curious. thx, k

I take Wellbutrin, Abilify, Topamax, and Buspar. Sounds like you have a great pdoc who is up and on the edge with your treatment. :)

Take care

I lost about 6lbs after starting Wellbutrin. It wasn't intentional - I was trying to keep on weight. You become much more active!
