Is there a difference between a porcelain crown and something called veneer?
Are all crowns made of porcelain? What is the normal cost for a porcelain crown?

All crowns are not made of porcelain. It's my understanding that some are made of ceramic perhaps?
I have a porcelain veneer. I suppose it's supposed to look more like a tooth since it has a kind of transparency to it. For me, it wasn't the best option since it was put over a tooth that had turned gray. Porcelain veneers also stain (though not as easily as a tooth I've noticed) and can't be whitened that I'm aware of. There is also a difference in the strength/durability though I can't remember if they are stronger or weaker.
Sorry, I don't remember the cost though I believe they are more expensive than other crowns.

Hiya, a porcelain veneer is a thin ceramic material which is cemented onto th tooth. It is like a falsenail for teeth (in womens terms). It is used mainly for cosmetic reasons, so to cover discoloured teeth etc. It has the advatage that it is more conservative as only a small amount of the tooths surface is removed.
As for crowns there are many available for example: porcelain fused to metal crowns, porcelain jacket crowns or gold crowns. The tooth is prepared and quite a lot of the tooth substructure is removed.
The results from both veneers and porcelain crowns can be very good, if th are correctly made ir: the correct tooth shade, shap and translucency is considered.
The dentist should recommend which is suitable as veneers are better used in certain circumstances and crowns are better in other.
As for price it depends on the restoration you decide to get. Im not completely sure but gold crowns are cheap, then veneers thus porcelain crowns are slightly more expesive (I think?)
