Hi

I found this on a website, how true is the information about when you are first infected?

(Unfortunately, most people who have genital herpes don't know it because they never have any symptoms, or they do not recognize any symptoms they might have. When there are symptoms, they can be different in each person. Most often, when a person becomes infected with herpes for the first time, the symptoms will appear within 2 to 10 days. These first episodes of symptoms usually last 2 to 3 weeks. )

You're asking how true this statement is?
Unfortunately, most people who have genital herpes don't know it because they never have any symptoms, or they do not recognize any symptoms they might have. When there are symptoms, they can be different in each person. Most often, when a person becomes infected with herpes for the first time, the symptoms will appear within 2 to 10 days. This statement is 100% true...my first episode lasted months but I'm not the typical case. The typical person that has herpes doesn't even know it...is running around giving it to everyone and is making fun of people that they hear that have genital herpes and is thinking they are skum...sorry...I'm in a really foul mood this morning. Had another OB that started yesterday....ya see, my BF gave this crap to me but he never knew he had it because he didn't have the "typical" symptoms. We have got to stop thinking of herpes as having these "typical" herpes symptoms...somehow people need to get informed that herpes isn't the vision of herpes that is implanted in our heads. It can be anywhere from zero symptoms to permanent nerve damage from it. I think that most men have tiny red bumps that they think are from sexual friction and most women just think that they are having a yeast or bacterial infection. My advise to anyone that is sexually active is to have std tests done regularly and tell the doctor to do a herpes blood test.

More typical is for people to not show symptoms or they're so mild they go unnoticed or misdiagnosed. This is why 90% of the 1 in 4 adults who do have genital herpes don't know it.

There is no cure for herpes, regardless of what the product information says. The best they can offer is fewer outbreaks, which will usually happen anyway over time. This virus acts differently for everyone.

Ok...well I haven't been infected with Herpes in the past because I have only had 3 partners and we were both virgins when we were together (first partner), I was with someone else and got tested negative after the relationship ended. And 3 months ago slept with a guy who said he slept with a girl who didn't know she had herpes - he tested negative. I haven't had any symptoms of Herpes, so If I have never had herpes before, do you think that if I was recently infected 3 months ago, I would have got symptoms by now????

To worried female, I hate to burst your bubble but, someone who is a virgin can definitely have herpes. Herpes is spread through skin to skin sexual and physical contact. Do not assume that someone is a virgin that they do not have anything. A simple coldsore is HSV1 which is oral herpes. The only way you can know for sure is to get tested. I have HSV1 and I do not get any outbreaks (knock on wood) I had only one real outbreak and to be honest it was so minor that it looked like chapped lips. I did not assume I went and got tested for everything possible. YOu should too. STD test does not include herpes and most people assume that they are being tested for everything. It does not matter how many partners you have had. Because herpes does not say "oh look at Jane, she is a **** let me pay her a permanent visit" So please go get tested and tell the doctor you want hsv1,hsv2, hpv (the virus that can cause cervical cancer, genital warts). Have a blessed day.

Hi

Lysineuser you didn't actually answer my question, and yes i do know that virgins can get herpes - type 1 etc....I was asking about if i had herpes, would I have got symptoms by now since it was only 3 months ago that I could have possibly got infected...he says he is clean.

Herpes is a virus that acts differently in everyone...noone can really answer that question. If I were you...I would wait until it's been 4 months from possible exposure and go have the blood test done. Don't ask the doctor if he thinks you could have herpes...just tell him that you were exposed and that you need a blood test. Often times doctors act like you can't have herpes if you don't have sores and that's just not true. If the doctor still wants to deny you a blood test saying it's unneccessary just tell him(lie) that you had a couple sores "down there" and that will shut him up! Just so you won't worry yourself to death, just because that guy had sex with someone that has herpes doesn't mean that he has to have it...you can have sex with someone that has herpes and not catch it. You aren't always contagious with herpes.
