My ferritin levels were at 4 last time I had them checked and my current doctor says that since my hemoglobin is still at 12 that I am fine. Anyone have anything like this going on? I'm just curious if I should get a second opinion or if it really is okay. I have been anemic in the past with the low hemoglobin and was put on iron pills... I feel like I am anemic because I am tired and dizzy and stuff, but he insists that low ferritin levels won't cause that.
Thanks!!! Robyn

I think what your dr is saying is that since your low level has not yet lead to anemia you are not experiencing any sort of health issue. Low iron in and of itself is not considered a health condition. However, levels that low usually do result in anemia eventually and it would be unwise of you to ignore it. Ask your dr about taking a good iron supplement and follow a healthy diet. Why become anemic when it can be so simple to prevent?

My ferritin level this year was below the acceptable level and was deficient. I had no symptoms except my hair was falling out which is why I had blood tests. My level is now ok(after taking supplements) and my hair has stopped falling out. Since increasing the iron my b12 has fallen and I am feeling tired and headachey. Did you get your b12 checked. This can also lead to anemia. By the way even though my iron was low I was not anemic.
