I had a cervical ESI on August 2nd. The steroid injection didn't provide any relief at all. I was pretty sure that I would be scheduled for a second injection, however, today the PM doctor's office called and they have me scheduled for a Medial Branch Block instead. As I understand it, it is more of a diagnostic test to see if they can find our where the pain is coming from. Again, this is for my cervical spine.
Has anyone had one of these tests done that can give me the heads up on what to expect? I'm a big chicken when it comes to things like this, so please try not to scare the heck out of me.
Thanks.

Hi - i had ESI's and they didn't help. I had Selective Nerve Root blocks (same concept as the Medial) as I was waiting for surgery and they worked better , calming down the nerve a little, and helped confirm the nerve root problem. This is where they go in the specific nerve/root they think is the problem and inject there, and not just generally in the spinal canal and the ESI. The procedure was no worse than the ESI, in fact, most of it was the same process.
