I was told by a neurosurgeon that at some point I will need a spinal fusion for L5-S1. He wants to do an ALIF. When I asked him how many of them he did , his answer was: about a hundred. Can I consider him an experienced surgeon in this procedure. He also told me that he will make a few small incisions to be minimally invasive , but since I had a C-section before ,because of scar tissue he may need to go through my old incision. What do you think?

well, he may be better than the guy who stayed at a holiday inn once. You need to check him out on his quality of work. Check out his credentials, where he went to school, who he worked under for his fellowship. Every Dr.'s hospital has a web site with this information. It may be impressive, or reads like a spinning commercial. Second opinions in these matters are always expected, even if you have to drive across the State.

I would think that someone that says they have done 100 of them to be well experienced and an expert in performing them. But you should also check out his credentials.. dont take his word for it.
