how does someone go about getting a mental health assesment? i do not know if i am bipolar, or just have depression, or it's just my anxiety. also i was wondering about andidepressant drugs, i'm pretty much against the idea of taking drugs, but my depression has now gone on for quite some time, and the self hate can be unbearable i think i do need help. i have also got an anxiety disorder and that is my main concern of andi depressants, some say it can make you feel more anxious.and i don't want that. i'm confussed, and feel i need to take action to help myself because i feel it's beyond my control now.

Actually there a number of ways to go about it. I applaud you for getting the help you need. That is a big step by itself. I know in the yellow pages often under psychiatry or mental health there usually are a number of agencies listed that can help start the evaluation process. For some they get the evaluation after entering a psych ward for many reasons. You might want to try the local mental health clinic as well and if they are unable to do it they can often help you to find someone who can or will. I know you stated you are against meds to a point. Often there are those who need the meds but only for a short duration meaning it is not a lifelong deal. Others such as myself need them for the life but I am different then you are.
Once again I give you congrats it's a big step just admitting you need help. The next is getting it and not stopping till you do.
