I took quite a fall during a hiking trip this summer but my symptoms are almost completely gone. During a hike, part of the ledge I was standing on gave way sending me 20 feet to the ground. I was only unconscious for a couple of minutes but a paper cut is all it takes to freak my dad out. Being the doctor he is, he’s always WAY to overly protective: thinking he can always protect me from everything. CT’s and MRI’s showed that I had what they categorized as a “severe concussion” with some slight bleeding or a hematoma which caused an increased pressure on my brain. That was three months ago and I’m quite recovered. As of now, other than an occasional dizzy spell or headache, I don’t have any symptoms. As an avid athlete, I LIVE FOR SPORTS and this year my dad is pulling me out of ALL sports. This is devastating to me and I don’t think I have any condition is serious enough to keep me out of sports. Is my dad just being overly protective because he’s a doctor, or is his decision justified? I you can relate to my situation, please reply. I’d love to here your opinion.

Katey, please rest assured that your dad is not being over protective, he is trying to save your life. A concussion is not anything to take lightly.
You obviously still have pressure on the brain since you get dizzy or headache off and on.
Please have patience, this will heal over "time" and you will be able to return to sports, but, not right now. Your body needs time to absorb the blood from the bleeding or hematoma.
I have a nephew who played football at the Air Force Acadamy. He had a concussion and the doctors did not let him play football ever again. They claimed if he got hit again in the head it would kill him. This is the reason your dad will not let you play sports at this time, your life could be on the line.
