I have been on Paxil for more than 10 years; increasing (over time) to 60mg regular Paxil daily. I have experienced many of the side effects-weight gain, sexual side effects, etc. I recently switched physicians and my new doctor is taking me off Paxil and prescribing Wellbutrin XL instead. I began the change-over 10 days ago by taking 30mg of Paxil for 3 days, and 15mg of Paxil for 3 days, then no Paxil at all. During this time, I was also taking 150mg of Wellbutrin each day, as well. My last dose of Paxil was 7 days ago, and I will continue with 150mg of Wellbutrin for another 2 days, when I will increase the dose to 300mg daily from that point on. Here is my question - I have not yet experienced the horrible side effects that I have read about. Since the first day of being Paxil free I have had some nausea (minor and manageable), a headache (also minor and manageable) and some intestinal instability. When I have tried to take myself off Paxil cold turkey in the past (I know, not smart!) I experienced the "zaps and whoosh" effect within 2-3 days, and serious nausea and vomiting within 3-4 days. Is the lack of withdrawal symptoms due to the fact that I'm taking the Wellbutrin along with, or has not enough time gone by for the symptoms to kick in. At this point I consider myself fortunate, but I may also just be waiting for the other shoe to drop, and that makes me nervous.
