i found out my main culprits are whey, casin, egg, and seseame. However, all of my internet info is saying that these food allergies mainly cause gastrointestinal problems. However, my probs are nasal stuffiess, sneezing etc, so will eliminating these foods even help my respitory symptoms?
also, how long should it take till i see some relief?
and all of my reactions from the elisa test were IGA related, does that make a diff?

We are beginning to realize that my daughter's sniffles and nasal problems are probably all from her food allergies. She has all of your same food allergies that you do. I know an adult who is beginning to develop food allergies and after she consumes milk, she can feel the congestion starting in her nose. I've also had an ENT tell me that milk can cause nasal congestion. I would think that you would get relief once you stop consuming all of the allergens (watch for hidden ones). With the IgG, regular doctors don't believe it but alternative doctors do. My daughter had an analphylactic reaction to peanut butter. She tested IgE negative to peanuts at the allergist but IgG positive with the blood test at the alternative doctor. The allergist told me to go ahead and feed her peanuts. He must have thought that I imagined her reaction! Later the alternative doctor injected the food allergens in her arm (which regular doctors don't do) and most of the foods, but a few (didn't inject the peanuts!), caused swelling at the site, thus, allergy. These were all of her IgG positive but IgE negative foods. I hate it when doctors don't understand something so, therefore, it doesn't exist. What an ego! They must think that they are God!

Thank you, and how is your daughter's health since she has eliminated all of her triggers? I would think after 2 weeks I would feel relief, maybe sooner, but the ragweed is sooo high in maryland right now. I can't tell if I am stuffy and sneezy from that or from the delayed food reactions from the past week.
One thing strange is that i am more allergic to whey than milk. My Iga was very high for why and moderate for milk. Since 2 days ago I used to drink 40g of whey in my protein shake everyday after a workout, what a scary thought.

Well, my daughter had leaky gut syndrome which eventually made her allergic to almost all food, so we are feeding her the least allergic food and we were rotating each food every four days to keep the allergens lower. Plus being on Zyrtec decreased her reactions. She, however, received her first food allergy shot over a month ago (LDA, low dose allergen) and she is doing better. Her sniffles are gone and she is not on any allergy medicine! This is why we believe now that most of her nasal problems were due to the food allergens. Maybe the whey is more concentrated with milk proteins? You write that your test was IgA. My daughters blood test was for IgE and IgG. The E being immediate and the G being delayed reactions. What made you think that you needed to be tested for food allergies? What were your symptoms?

wow, i never thought they could give food allergy injections. that is wonderful news that she is not on her meds!
anyway my test measured both IgA and IgE but all of my reactions were delayed IgA reactions only. So I may never have been able to figure them out since my natureopathic doc said a reaction can take place anywhere from 2 hrs to a couple days. However, every morning i would feel soooo stuffy and clogged with thick mucus in my nose and throat. Everyday I looked as if i had a cold up until 5-6 hrs after waking. I also have been retested for allergy shots and have been on them since age 8, now 23. I also take allegra d.
So if milk is truly the culprit, I drank approx 3 cups everyday in addition to the 40g whey in my shake along with granola bars and cereal containing milk. That is a lot of damage. Eggs were very high IgA reations, and i ate approx 8 egg whites a day, whew
I dont know if eliminating these foods will improve my stuffiness (since allergic reactions to food can be anything from sneezing to fatigue) but it has to do some good for my body. I also tend to get a few bad breakouts, so there is a chance it could improve my skin :)
Keep us posted about ur daughter

I've never heard of food allergy shots either. I imagine that idea to be a bit dangerous if you ask me. (anaphylaxic shock)
Harajuku, I'm almost certain that if you avoid ALL dairy your stuffiness will improve. Try it for a couple of weeks and see what happens. I know you need your protein shakes, and I've heard that there are some non-dairy protein powders out there. Also, you might want to consider getting your med changed from Allegra-d to Zyrtec. I'll tell you, I was in the same boat as you with all of the stuffyness/congestion, and I also consumed a lot of dairy products, (whey protein shakes). I was also getting allergy shots when I shouldn't have been. (After 2 years they found I was a little too allergic to handle them.)I stopped the shots, changed my diet and my meds, the congestion subsided within 2 weeks. Because I have a LOT of food allergies I also had to make many other adjustmens which has made an even greater difference. My food allergies mainly cause me intestinal problems, but they also contribute to some upper respiratory issues as well.
I wish you the best of luck!

I am thrilled to hear that the diet worked for you. Tomorrow was actually my first day off the whey, milk, and coffee diet. However, I found out there was some milk in my rice packet, grrrr.
Why do u prefer zyrtec over allegra d? i do know to stay away from claritin-d b/c there is lactose ingredient in it. i wonder if that is the same for allegra.
also, if i am going to eat at restaurants, should i get into the habit of asking for butter on the side? But i think some pasta dishes will be hard to cook w/o butter. I hate having to be such a pain.
i really hope this works for me. i never had gastrointestinal probs so i'm hoping all of this food was directed towards my stuffiness.

About the food allergy shots being dangerous, the office where my daughter got it in Cinncinati has never had anyone go into anaphylactic shock with these shots. I believe my daughter didn't feel absolutely wonderful, but after about 10 minutes of lying down she was fine. The amounts of allergen are very low. We are very happy with the results that we have received with just the first shot. Only some alternative doctors do them, however.

Harajuku,
Zyrtec is the top dog when it comes to antihistamines, and I needed it since the Allegra-d essentially stopped working for me. I mean it got to the point where I was having bad allergic reactions in the winter time when that is essentially my "easy" season.
Getting rid of the dairy and coffee will help you a great deal. I forgot to mention that coffee was another thing that had to be eliminated from my diet as well. It was also a culprit when it came to my congestion.
Eating out can sometimes be tricky when it comes to avoiding certain foods, but it's not impossible and most establishments will accomodate whatever your wishes are. Whenever I can't find things I veer towards salads, grilled chicken, steamed veggies, things like that. And yes, anything can be made without butter...including pasta. Extra virgin olive oil is the best way to go.
Good luck with the dairy elimination. I thought I would never be able to do it, but it turned out to be easier than I thought. Plus feeling better and breathing better gave me all of the incentive to stick with it.

Thanks Anjjou,
Sorry to bother u again, but how long until u started feeling better after the elimination diet? Today i feel like hell, so stuffy, and i have been following my diet to a t and still feel miserable. Does it really take a few weeks or does it happen overnight? :(

I had the RAST test for food allergies, which I believe measures IgG. It was ordered by a regular ENT MD. I scored highest on eggs, which I was eating every day! After stopping the eggs for a week, my nasty yellow drainage was gone. It took a good month with all the foods before I noticed I was less fatigued and stuffy overall.

Thanks SD,
I'll keep giving it a shot. Also, I am seeing a new allergist at hopkins in 2 weeks b/c when my new allergist (as of 2 yrs ago) retested me he only tested me for dog, mouse, cockroach, pollen, dust and maybe one other thing. When I was 8 yrs old i rememeber them testing me for 50 things. I feel as though these shots never helped me the slightest, maybe b/c he jipped me unless he kept everything in my old serum.
Do u feel your worst in the morning after u wake up? I know it's probably dust mites, but we keep things clean. Anyway, I just dont know anyone who is as stuffy as i am in the mornings and then a couple hrs later my nose is ruunning like a hose.

Do you have the protective dust mite covers on your bed? No matter how clean you keep things, the dustmites still are there.
But just lying down can cause mucus to pool and thicken.

I really hope I don't jinx myself here, but for the past 3 days I have felt great. I have kept my biggest food triggers: whey, milk, and coffee out of my diet for a good week. I wake up a little stuffy, but nowhere near feeling miserable as I was prior to my food allergy elimination diet.
I even moved back into my parents house with my two hypoallergenic dogs, that I thought were making me sick. I wake up feeling well rested and energetic. The ragweed is even at mod-high levels, and I am sensitive to it.
I feel like a normal person again :blob_fire
I keep forgetting to take my allegra-d too b/c my allergies have felt so good, so I might just save it for a really bad day. I'm so happy i could cry!

Congratulations Harajuku on feeling better. Isn't it amazing what happens when you eliminate a few triggers! Keep it up and you'll always have results.
