Hello - I had been having lower back pain for about 5 years and just recently went to see a chiropractor about the problem. I've also been getting many headaches. I probably get about 2-3 a week. After some xrays, he noticed that I have a scoliosis. You could see a curve in my lower back and also my neck has no curve at all where it should be slightly curved. He said that I need to come in at least 2 times a week for 12 weeks in order to help treat this and there was no guarantee that my back will completely straighten out but my pain would definantly decrease. Also, he mentioned something called electrical stimulation as part of the treatment and I was wondering if someone could explain what that is and what they do to you during this treatment? I forgot to ask him while i was there but wanted to hear from someone first hand who has delt with this. Thank you - Catherine 23yrs old

When my neck pain began I had some electrical stimluation done. In the chiropractor's office they would apply some small pads (maybe 2 inches x 2 inches) and hook it up to a unit that provides electrical current. It was not at all painful, though kind of a different type of feeling - a low buzz.

But, on a personal note, I encourage you to see an orthopedic spine surgeon. Scoliosis is not something a chiropractor can 'cure'. While the side effects can be treated by chiropractic treatment, an orthopedic spine surgeon can talk to you about the degree of scoliosis and work with you for a treatment plan which may nor may not include chiropractic.

Since the spine is so 'delicate' in many ways, I woudln't discourage chiropractic care, but I would suggest seeing an orthopedic spine surgeon first and discussing with him/her if chiropractic care is an option for you.
