View Full Version : Synesthesia - An Attempt to Explain

I just spent the last fifteen minutes or so drawing in my sketch book things - like I just had a panic attack so I drew what I saw: red and purple ... when I looked at the colors on paper I felt inside panicky - and what I saw when I was having the attack was red and purple. Sometimes I will see black and purple, and the black moves very slowly - like a river without a current, moving slowly around many bends, and it sounds like bells, one after another after another, but the purple, it moves in lines, rapidly, like on a heart moniter, and is very loud, like drums. My name: Jessica is blue, when I hear people say it I see a light blue coming and slowly fading, and when people call me Jessie, my nickname: it is purple, like a flash of purple that just stays still, and disappears. I am in the middle of seeing much clearly, and hearing things clearly ... so I am trying to write it and draw it, so I can better explain it to people. I don't know if this sounds descriptive, for others to better understand, but I am trying.

hi,
that was interesting to read.sorry to hear about your panic attacks though.
some words feel like colours to me too.names and days.
if you dont mind i would love to hear more.
i have lucid dreaming where i become conscious in my dreams and i have never been able to find anyone else that does and its strange to be the only one with different experiences from everyone else.
all the best j

The famous New Music composer, Messiaen, wrote many pieces during the mid-19th century that related to his personal experiences with synesthesia. For him, any array noises could trigger a vast spectra of colors, maddening at times, and surreal at others.

Personally, I feel that everyone might experience a form of syesthesia, but maybe not to yours or Messiaen's extreme. I know that I tend to color code every unmaterialized object/noun: like months, numbers, letters...things like that. They all have colors..

it would be interesting to hear more of what your going through,,,
