No, it is not, but the treatment courses are often very similar.

My layman's opinion is that the easiest way to distinguish the two is that bipolar has clear evidence of mood cycling - with patterns - whereas the mood swings of BPD are more random/chaotic.

i have been diag with ADD w/o the hyper and trichotillomania(pulling out of eyelashes and eyebrows) which i have not did in about 11 years-i am now 28--i am compulsive --sleep 12-14 hours a day--distorded body image, bad relationships--i've only been on anti depressants and believe me all of them--they do not do much anymore--a doctor has recently given me strattera (did nothing)--and now cylert---nothing but they both make me sleep---when i ask for concerta or adderall--they automatically assume i'm a drug user or seller and i've never did either one--my child phys--put me on wellbutrin at 16 and if that did not work he was going to put me on ritilin--but i quit going--that's why i suggested it--today i have my first appt at the minrith meier clinic in dallas--i hear it is good

Great! Tell us how it goes. I used to pull out my hair when I was in the 7th grade, (I'm 39 now),stopped that on my own. Tell the doc everything, then let him do the drug suggesting, then add your two cents worth. It always works best if you let them think it is their idea, LOL. Rhonda
