whiskey 06-01-2003, 06:36 PM What do I do when I get delusional and/or want to hurt myself and my husband leaves instead of trying to help me? ------------------ whiskey Sponsor HoosierBj 06-02-2003, 12:04 PM Hi Whiskey, FIRST, you should pat yourself on the back for coming on here and asking for some thoughts from folks who definitely understand moods! A few questions tho; How often does this happen, are you on meds? Do you have a doctor or counselor who is aware of your pain? When your husband leaves are you alone, or with small childrens? I apologize for all these questions, and my first instinct is of course to tell you to call your doctor or a crisis phoneline ASAP. Another thought is whether your delusions are from extreme mania or from some other root cause. I'm really sorry if this seemed like the 3rd degree, but we don't just get a little involved here, we get aLOT involved! Write back and let us know how you are doing! Bj whiskey 06-02-2003, 04:08 PM Lets see I have got delusional probably 3 times in the last 4 months the doc put me on seroquel after the first one and they completely stopped for awhile. I have 2 children 10 and 12 I have a pdoc and a talk therapist I am currently taking prozac 30mg, seroquel 100mg, eskolith 900mg, klonpin 2-4mg a day. ------------------ whiskey HoosierBj 06-03-2003, 01:10 PM Are there any family other than your husband, or friends, or neighbors who you would feel comfortable telling about your symptoms who you could call before the delusions set in and become unsafe for you and/or your kids?? Then, I honestly would insist on my doctor's helping me find out where the delusions are originating. You would probably know if they were from extreme Type I mania or not already. There are other conditions that cause delusions, and maybe even a medication?? You shouldn't be alone during major delusional periods!! Your husband should be invited to one of your doctor/counseling sessions and given some literature on mental disorders. (Like we actually have "control" over our chemical imbalance... Ptui!!) rsg 06-03-2003, 02:38 PM I'm no doc but ssri's are what put me manic to begin with! Zoloft had me totally psychotic by the time they figured it out, so why the prozac? Wellbutrin is an anti depressant that hits the non serotonin receptors...hm just a thought. Seroquel has saved me(but makes me tired), along with depakote. When I get "jittery" I always have my klonopin. whiskey 06-03-2003, 10:37 PM I have taken prozac since my first pdoc then I was taking prozac and paxil at the same time my new doc took me off the paxil but I've never questioned the prozac cause it seemed to work. the talk therapist and pdoc and my regular doc are getting in touch with each other because of all my digestive problems and high blood pressure along with cirhhosis of the liver there are only so many meds I can take safely it seems the meds I need to take for the bipolar some of them I can't take cause of my liver. so it's kinda a balancing game between the two. ------------------ whiskey HoosierBj 06-04-2003, 10:24 AM Do you mind if I ask? Are you not on Lithium because of a current liver problem or are your doctors afraid to put you on it because of POTENTIAL liver problems? I'm still very concerned that you are alone during delusional periods. I was almost on the South Shore train to Chicago by myself as a 14 yr old because of delusional thinking... Isn't being bi-polar the pits when some people think we actually have control over the chemicals that our brains manufacture? They expect us to "snap out of it", "get over it", etc. Aaaargh!! rsg 06-04-2003, 11:37 AM sorry bout your liver, interfuron and something else might slow this process???My mom's friend has hep c and it has helped. Well, so much for taking depakote huh?Seroquel works for about 6 hours then poops out, hope the doc conference comes up with something, my heart breaks for you, R whiskey 06-04-2003, 12:27 PM Sorry I forgot about the lithium 900mg a day and I have a liver function test and lithium level test every month. ------------------ whiskey shortsue 06-07-2003, 09:15 AM ask about the new drug abilify. It seems to be working well with the delusions and has few side effects. hang in and try to find someone to talk with when you find yourself in that place> good luck |
