hi all------jules & deda----- alot of times i don't smoke for a couple of days and then just pick them up likes it's nothing. well i haven't had one since friday and thought about it last night that today would actually be the third day. got up this morning and listened to the hypnotic tape and felt pretty good. well about 2 hours after i got up i though oh well i need a butt. lit one and put it out. really didn't want it. so maybe this is the beginning accidentally. i have to give my WC deposition on wed so who knows how hyped up i;ll be by then (see jules i understand the stress thing). but i am going to try. i probably have at least 2 days out of the week that i don't smoke at all and 2 that i only smoke 2-3. the other 3 i probably smoke a pack a day. again i am going to try. if i lose it there's always the next time.

Hi ICC....
So sorry you're having a stressful time of it.... you seem to be going back and forth. The thing is, is that you have proved that YOU CAN quit, as you don't smoke [at all] for half of the week. My advice to you, (and ALL who are trying to quit), is, get rid of ALL smoking materials and memoribilia in your home, car, office, closet, purses, pockets, garage, hiding places, etc. This would include any and all cigarettes....even the little butts! ;) I threw it all out before I even quit...and made absolutely sure that there was NO way possible that I could easily have a cig. Even the butts, as I had been known to "dig" up a few of those before. I also threw away all of my ashtrays, (coffee cans I had out in the garage), lighters, matches, etc.
I know it is stressful...but if you are patient, it does get easier. Are you using the gum, or patch, or Welbutrin, or anything to help you? It might be a good idea for you....just for a few weeks, till you 'get your feet more firmly planted on the ground',...as they say. The relaxation tapes you're using are a good idea though..and you're on the right track by using those....just gotta get rid of those cigarettes, girlfriend! :dizzy:
I know it's tough...it is,...but try harder, and don't give up. I'mso glad I didn't, (this time).... Let me tell you, I was in the casinos in NV all weekend, and I can't stand to be around that smoke anymore...Every time someone close to me lit one up, I cashed out my machine and took off. I hate it! (and you will too one day, I hope) That's it!!!!... :nono:...start telling yourself how much you hate it...it works if you can really convince yourself...that is what I did.
Best of luck to you, ICC...and keep in touch,
Deda

good morning deda-----that's one of the problems everyone i live with smokes. they have been good and going outside for the most part. i listened to the tape twice yesterday and i know i wasn't into it becasue i have had people try to hypnotize me before and couldn't i just can't seem to let go and be that relaxed. so for years i have been smoking irregulaly. 1 her 2 there a pk here. have never smoked at night but for some reason my two quits that lasted a year i let myself have 1 once a day, and brought it down to 1 a week and then finally quit for the year. i'm going to do it. just not usre how. every NRT i have used has made me want to smoke and i think that's because i don't smoke for days at times. i'll be around. i'm not giving up and the nice part is i know you aren't either.

ICC - I agree with you - sounds like your smoking addiction is mostly mental and therfore the NRT probably won't work for you. Trust me I think the mental aspects are much stronger than the physical addiction. Hang in there - you can do it!

thanks million!!! that is what i am starting to think. NRT has always made me sick. i also have had better luck (1 year) quittting when it's my decision and not one of my dr.s or a friend or anyone else but me. we all know that it has to be our decision, in our way, in our time. :)
