Hi everyone, I hope someone might be able to give me some advice. Okay going to try and make this short and sweet. I am in process of getting full dentures. I have 10 teeth remaining on the bottom, and 6 teeth on top. Problem is I had all those pulled a while back, and have never had any problems, no swelling no bruising. However I wake up with my left jaw (upper portion) hurting pretty bad, but only when I open my mouth or move my mouth. Hope this makes sense. :) I have noticed that lately I have been grinding my teeth, what is left of them. Could this be the problem, or something more serious? My next appt., is Sept 14th. I have been getting headaches all last week, but that has passed. I checked for fever, nothing. I am clueless, any advice?? Reason I checked for fever someone told me it could be lock jaw, and this scares me.
Well just prepping for possible hurricane here in South Florida, again! Hope to hear from someone regarding my dilemma. Thanks!

Left upper portion of your jaw - do you mean the maxilla or where your upper teeth are? Since you have less teeth on the top than the bottom it could be that you have an unequal resting position or bite when laying down which would account for the pain only in the morning. It could be casuing more strain on the joint and muscles on one side only. Grinding would exasperate the problem. The full dentures will probably equalize your bite and let the joint, jaw and muscles rest properly during the night.

Good morning Thelma-Louise, Thank you for taking the time to give me some great advice. Yes it only happens on the upper left side of my jaw. The pain is better. I too assume it is exactly what you are saying. infact is it much better today when I woke up. No headaches, and still no other side-effect going on. but I am going to make sure my dentist is going to check this out.
Thanks again and have a wonderful day!
