OK everyone here is my story. About 8 or 9 months ago i realised after a period of long stresses in my life that my pap had been neglected for 4and a half years. After i finally had it i was told to come in for a colposcopy (however you spell it!). Much to my embarassment i began menstruating the day before the colp. even though i read somewhere that you shouldn't have this test done while menstruating (don't know why) the doctor didn't seem concerned and did the test. I felt at the time that he didn't take me or my fears very seriously. I am in a high risk category for cervical cancer and have had some gyneacolgical probs which i told him about - like sharp pain in my cervix when inserting tampon, pain during intercourse,bleeding/spotting after intercourse, horrible heavy irregular periods and complete failure to gain ANY weight I am 176 cm and can't get past 49kg. Anyway, the colp results were "inconclusive", they said, come back and have another in 6 months. Well i just had the second pap and the results are CIN III changes, i have to have treatment IMMEDIATELY. ok so now I am freaking out just a little. Why is this happening so fast? could the first doctor have missed something? he didn't seem to care at all that i had not had a pap for such a long time, in fact his whole attitude was that i was way too young to have cervical cancer. I am 25. I had my first child at 18 and my second at 22. does anyone know if getting a cin iii result definetely means i do NOT have cancer? I know it sounds silly but I am just so worried that something is getting missed. also after the colp i had the WORST period i have ever had my cervix felt like it was contracting.
Also i know everyone freaks about having to have lletz but i am really spinning about having a local anaesthetic and being awake for the procedure. And I am not a wuss hehe I have had two kids with no meds and lived through a ruptured appendix with peretinits so it's not pain i am worried about - more the thought of having this procedure done in my vagina while awake....the pap and colp are bad enough. if anyone can alleviate any of my fears i will be grateful. the first colp i came here for advice and everyone was so lovely and helpful i thought I would try again. my heart goes out to everyone who is suffering worse than i too.... I know there are a lot of you.

CIN III means you don't have cancer. There is a small chance that your LLETZ could show that you do have very early stages of cancer, but it's unlikely. Even the early stages typically require no additional treatment, so don't obsess over that.

As for why it's happening so fast, that doesn't seem to be uncommon. Almost everyone else on this board had the same experience that you had: normal or low grade Paps to high grade very quickly.

Do NOT worry too much about the LLETZ. The procedure itself takes less than 20 seconds. I'm not kidding with you. Less than 20 seconds. Most people feel no or very little discomfort. It's not a big deal, but if you feel you need something to keep you calmer, ask your doc. Good luck.

Well actually I know what that means.. I am looking at my records and mine show this: [ mild dysplasia is present (CIN I) ] .... so if mine is mild.. then II should be moderate and III should be severe.... In your situation you have a moderate dysplasia which needs to be taken care of but you do not have cancer right now. It is possible to develop over YEARS....

Im not sure what the LLETZ is.. is it the laser one? but I had cryotherapy done on me... but that was because I still want to have kids... Just to throw an idea out here if you dont already know.... My doctor told me that some of the procedures that are done can have negative effects towards a future pregnancy - She decided that it would be in my best interest to have this procedure done since I am young. So if you are not already aware of this.. please talk to your doctor about this if you want or need to.

Best of luck to you - Just keep your head up.. it gets better..

thisisme, LLETZ is the same thing as LEEP.

I would like to caution you against cryotherapy as a treatment for severe dysplasia. Cryotherapy destroys the cells completely yes, but in doing so, leaves no tissue to review pathologically to be certain of the extent of abnormal cells. A punch biopsy done during a colposcopy is only a tiny picture of what is happening in terms of cell changes, with severe (CIN 3) it is best to have a full analysis of the extent of abnormal cells.

There is a good rate of regression with younger women for sure. Eating healthy, reducing stress, getting exercise, and not smoking also assist in the regression of the virus. that said, I don't think you would want to leave severe dysplasia untreated. Data shows that 2/3 of severe dysplasia are likely to progress to invasive cancer - too much of a risk, if you ask me.

Take your time and do your research regarding excision treatments and their effects on future childbearing. You will find that there certainly are risks, however, you will also find this happens in a very small percentage of cases. There are many women out there who have had to undergo more than one LEEP and were able to conceive and carry a child to term.

I too had the LEEP done under local. It was an experience yes, but overall the worrying about it was worse than the actual procedure. Take a couple advil beforehand, and if you are really anxious, talk to your doctor about an anxiety med. Get the nurse to hold your hand - mine did and she was a LIFESAVER.

Good luck!

LOL, I wish mine had only taken 20 seconds Timber :) I had kind of a gong show LEEP done. The LEEP tool was a dud and he didn't know until he went to excise the tissue, thus he had to find another one right then and there. I was laying there on the table thinking "it could only happen to me!"

(BTW, what happened to me is, like, so rare, so please do not freak out about this ANYONE!)

Hi Pixistar, Just want to caution you. (not scare you) Follow up on your CIN111 results with a specialist to make sure you have the tests you need. You didn't mention whether or not you had a biopsy. I would suggest it. Especially if you are having the symptoms of bleeding and so on. If you had a colp and not a biopsy ask the dr why he/she felt that wasn't necessary. Just make sure everything is taken care of.
The pap test is unfortunately not 100% accurate even though it is better than nothing.
My experience: pap last year was normal, this year it showed CIN111. I had a biopsy and was told it was cancer, that had likely been growing out of reach of the pap.

All the best and good luck with your procedures!
