I'm new to this. I was having trouble concieving and so i was referred for a Laposcopy, hystercopy and dye test. My Gyno put proceed +/- on my consent form and told me that the DAY SURGERY would only last 40 MINS max! I asked what the +/- meant and he said if he see'sanything MINOR he can sort it without having to wake me and ask for permission ie a cyst or something similar.
My operation took just over 3 hours and turned into quite a major procedure (Gyno's words, not mine). I had adhesions - my uterus and tubes we all stuck together and my womb was tilited too far back and basically had a go at putting everything back where it belonged. After this he did my dye test and both my tubes are too damaged!! At this point my day in hosp turned into 3. On returning home i got took back into hosp for a further 2 days with cronic grion and stomach pains, i then had x-rays and a internal ultrasound which discovered i had also now got PCOS. I was then sent on my way with anti-biotics and very strong painkillers. 1 week later i was back in hosp for another 3 days with the same symptoms. My 1 week off work as now turned into 5 long weeks! I know i have to have IVF but nothing had been said really about my PCOS?? Does anyone else think a too serious procedure was carried out?? I am now feeling very distressed and sad.
Sorry for going on ....

Nic, I'm sorry to hear your procedure turned into such a nightmare  . My humble opinion is that it was probably for the best that they tried to fix as much as possible right then and there. I mean, they are in there looking around anyway, so if they can fix things while they are already in there, then that is one less surgery that is needed. I had a lap done last month, and my OBGYN noticed my tube is blocked, but she wouldn't unblock it. Now I have to see an RE and have a second surgery done to unblock the tube - I would have preferred to have had it all done at once.
But, you mentioned numerous issues that they worked on. I can only imagine how sore you must've been! I'm sorry I don't have any info regarding PCOS. I just wanted to let you know you are in my thoughts & I wish you a very speedy recovery.

Hi
Thanks for your meaasge.
Also forgot to mention before that on my 3rd stay in hospital the Gyn told me that another reason i could ave been in sooo much pain is because my uterus/tubes were fixing back together :dizzy: !!! I have had 3 opinions on this and this can definately happen ..... so why did they bother!!!!! It has just given me 5 weeks of extreme pain.
Nic

Hi Nic,
Sorry to hear about all your troubles. Just out of curiosity, did they mention the reason for all the adhesions? Do you have endometriosis as well? Either way, adhesions can recur after they are fixed--but I think with endo, they happen a little quicker. But if they don't recur, you could perhaps get pregnant. I also agree, better to just get it done all at once, rather than 2 surgeries.
It does seem a little strange your doc has not mentioned anything more about the PCOS. Don't hesitate to ask questions and be persistant. And if you have a bad feeling with this doc, I'd switch. With your issues, probably best to go to an RE.
Good luck in your quest for that BFP. Hopefully you will also get to go back to work soon as well! :)

Hi guys, thanks for your positive thoughts!
The LAP was actually to determind endo but the gyn found no signs of this. My tubes are pretty messed up anyway so if everything did mend itself back together then it wouldn't really make much difference. This is the reason i cannot fall prego, the PCOS is just another barrier. Gyn has already said my only chance is IVF and i see him again on 26/09 so hopefully will get some more answers then.JUst feeling so confused at min

Hey ...
Apparently the reasons for my adhesions are genic, but no-one else in the family has this problem!
I was ckecked for endo but no traces were found. I have heard that ppl who need ivf and have pcos have to take something for the pcos first before even begining ivf - any know how true this is?? If this is the case it gonna be a very very long road and at 32, doc has been saying my time is slowly running out.
I have so many questions need answering but dont see my surgeon again until 26/09. That will be nearly 2 months since i had the op!!
I'm so confussed

I don't have PCOS, so not totally sure if there's something special for PCOS women prior to IVF. But either way, you'll have to take some medication for awhile prior to IVF to prep for it anyway. I've never had IVF, but I've heard of women being put on BCP's, or lupron prior (or during??) an IVF cycle, so I'm sure you doc will go over the necessary steps and meds when you go to see him/her in September. It always is a process isn't it? I feel like this whole journey is waiting. Waiting to see the doctor, waiting to get started, the 2 week wait, etc. LOL. But it'll all be worth it for that BFP right?! Good luck. Just think, in September you'll have an actual plan towards that BFP. :)

Wow, what an experience. You have had the really tuff end of the stick haven't you. I mean I like to mop around and think I have it bad but after reading your post I really feel for you. I just wanted to say that I hope that everything works out for you and that you get in touch with someone that will give you the answers to what you need. And then I pray that you will find your way to your baby. I know its hard but keep your head up the sun keeps shining everyday, thank goodness.;)

Hi Iclebunnie:)
Welcome to the boards. I went to hospital with strong pains in my side and tummy about 7 years ago. They thought it was a cyst on my ovaries or my appendix. I had a very high temp. and they tried to bring it down. For three days I waited for something to be done, eventually I had a major operation and it was later explained my appendix were removed but I had a pelvic infection which caused mass scarring and adhesions on both my tubes and I was informed I would never conceive. for the next few years I was in and out of hospital in enormous pain and with infections. They did another operation to try and fix up my tubes to stop the pain, it lasted only a short while. I had laps, dyes etc.etc. I asked to be moved to a city hospital that also specialises in IVF. I feel I made the right choice, they did a fix up job on my tubes 3 years ago and i havent had a pain since!! I have done a six month course of clomid and started first ivf this summer which I have had to put on hold because of hyperstimulation but I do have 4 frozen embryos. Sorry to go on but I felt I needed to tell you my similar story! Chin up I will be thinking of you.
