View Full Version : Does this sound like a kidney stone? Help

I'm not sure what to make of some new pains I've been getting in my sides--they run under my ribs all the way down to my bladder (I think) When the pain hits, it floors me just for a bit then goes away. It is becoming more often. Sometimes I can feel it in my lower back and I often feel sick to my stomach too. I am taking a medication called topamax that is known to cause kidney stones. I do drink a lot of water and drinks like gatorade with electrolytes. I'm waking at night in a sweat at times with this sick stomach. Does this sound familiar at all? And can you have stones in each side or usually just one?

I know the right thing to do would be to see my dr, but I'm just not happy with her at the moment because of other s/e this med is causing:dizzy: so I've been putting it off--hoping maybe it would just go away. Can they clear up on there own? Thanks!!

Sounds almost more like gall stones. If they are kidney stones as a female you MAY be able to pass them on their own but you will not know unless you know how big they are. I would not let it go own much longer. If you do not like your doc, go to your local ER or Urgicenter. They can do an x-ray and see what happens. Careful with the gatorade that can make it worse and contrary to what people say watch out for cranberry juice (it can discolor the urine) and look for any color changes in the urine. The golden rule is: If it's golden - there's a problem.

Good Luck and keep us posted!

Thankyou! Because of the med I'm on I have been told over and over again to keep my electrolytes up by drinking the gatorade--yikes! I may just suck it up and go in. I'm slowly going off of this med because of the s/e's. Thanks again!:)
