Hi,
Im am a 37 year old male. I have been experiencing trouble swallowing
my food at times. Its been going on for months.maybe a year. It happens on
ly occasionaly and sporadicly. If I had to average it out I would say 1-2 ti
mes in a two week period. I will be eating a meal when suddenly I feel the
food lodge in my chest. Its not painfull and I can breath but the pressure
is very uncomfortable. I try and dislodge it by stretching and breathing de
eper but usually my eyes will start to water and I have to stand up, go stan
d by the sink and drink some fluids attempting to flush it. The fluid now i
n my chest builds more pressure which is even more uncomfortable and then it
"flushes". I immediatly feel fine as if it never happened and continue eat
ing.
I went to see my doctor about it and he sent me for a UGI which resulte
d in everything looking fine. He also sent me for an ultrasound of my abdomi
nal region which showed that I had a gallstone. I do not remember the exact
size offhand but he drew the size on a piece of paper and it looked to me to
be about a 1/4 inch in size. He then sent me for a Biliary Scan with Eject
ion Fraction and the results of that was 19%. He explained to me that my ga
llbladder should come out. I am going to speak to an expert for a 2nd opini
on but I wanted some other opinions.
First off.is food getting stuck in my chest in anyway tied to my gallb
ladder? Im certain im not confusing the feeling of food in my chest with ano
ther symptom. Its definetly the food stopping in my chest. Its only ever hap
pened when im eating and right after I swallow. I feel the food stop. Furthe
r more im not experiencing any symptoms of a gallstone. No pain, indigestio
n, burping etc.. Does my gallbladder really need to come out before symptom
s arrise?
Im currently waiting for a surgeon to call me that my doctor is setting
up for me. He is also sending me to get my throat scoped for the swallowin
g problem.
Anyone have a similar experience?
Thx!
Kirk

Hi, No the food in your chest has nothing to do with your gallbladder. I get that all the time too where the food gets caught in my chest and man does it hurt. Mine isnt as often as your but it happens but only when I eat stuff I am allergic to usually. Also if they found gallstones and think you need your gallbladder out it is just a choice you will have to make. If you want to wait until you feel symptoms then do that but man do tha gallbladder attacks HURT!! I had mine out about 2 yrs ago and man did the attacks really hurt!!! Good Luck!
